Philippines boosts cyber resilience as digital shift accelerates
CEBU, Philippines — Business and government leaders in the Philippines are accelerating efforts to strengthen cyber resilience, framing digital security as critical infrastructure as companies deepen their reliance on data, cloud systems and artificial intelligence.
At a summit hosted by BPO firm Concentrix, executives from industries spanning aviation, energy, finance, real estate and telecommunications aligned on a common priority— shifting from reactive cybersecurity to resilience built into core operations.
The gathering, held under the Filipinnovation platform, highlighted mounting concern that cyber threats now extend beyond data breaches to operational disruption, reputational risk and systemic vulnerabilities in an increasingly digital economy.
Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) undersecretary Leandro Aguirre said safeguarding digital systems requires tighter coordination between the public and private sectors, particularly as attacks grow more sophisticated and interconnected.
“If cybersecurity is treated as a shared responsibility—through policy, capacity-building and collaboration—we can build a digital environment that is secure, resilient and trusted,” Aguirre said.
Executives at the forum pointed to rising urgency for long-term investment in cyber defense, as companies expand digital channels and integrate AI into customer operations.
Solutions showcased at the event included AI-driven threat detection and end-to-end protection platforms designed to anticipate and neutralize attacks before they disrupt business continuity. Representatives from Genesys, emphasized how cybersecurity is increasingly intertwined with customer experience, as firms balance personalization with data protection. Integrating AI, data and systems securely, they said, is becoming central to maintaining both performance and trust.
Donald Lim, who leads the Management Association of the Philippines, warned that fragmented or short-term approaches leave organizations exposed in a fast-evolving threat landscape. He called for enterprise-wide strategies that embed security into decision-making, not just IT systems.
Discussions across sectors reinforced a consistent message: cyber resilience is no longer a technical function but a boardroom priority.
Amit Jagga, chief business officer of Concentrix Philippines, said companies are moving toward “resilience by design,” where security is integrated across workflows, supply chains and customer platforms.
“Trust is the currency of the digital economy, and cybersecurity is what protects it,” Jagga said.
