Nespresso unveils lineof machines, coffee capsules

Ehda M. Dagooc - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — Swiss coffee machine brand, Nespresso, has introduced its revolutionary Vertou line of machines and coffee capsules in the Cebu market, stepping up the at-home coffee game to better replicate café results with each of its unique features.

Opened in November last year, the Nespresso boutique store located at the Ayala Center Cebu has expanded its product lines available to the Cebuano market.

The store held an experiential exhibit from April 14-16 at the Gallery of Ayala Center Cebu to provide a more in-depth look into the at-home experience with Vertou—demonstrating its ease of use, a wider range of roasts and sizes, and the overall company’s commitment to sustainable practices.

The booth featured not only the latest machine and accompanying accessories but also some of the easy recipes that can be enjoyed thanks to the patented Centrifusion Technology used in the Vertuoline of machines.

Instead of the standard pressure system one might find in most coffee machines, the Nespresso Vertuo spins the pods as water runs through, creating a more efficient separation of oil and water, forming a greater and longer-lasting amount of crema (the froth on top) without overtaking the coffee taste. The effect is a richer flavor and an even more pleasant aftertaste, which customers old and new can experience firsthand at the booth.

“The boutique [in Ayala Center Cebu] is our latest one, and currently the only one in the Visayas,” said Patrick Pesengco, Managing Director of Novateur Coffee Concepts, the sole distributor of Nespresso in the Philippines.

“We’re looking forward to seeing that seed grow in Cebu, and beyond. We have seen that the blossoming metropolitan of Cebu in particular is a key location; we’re proud to serve the coffee lovers of the area and give them that immersive experience both through the boutique and the weekend booth,” he added.

Based in Vevey, Switzerland, Nespresso is also putting its serious emphasis on sustainability, such as recycling used Nespresso aluminum capsules.

Known for its efforts in sustainability, the brand is also planning to touch base with Filipino coffee farming communities, just like what it has been doing in Indonesia and Vietnam.

Gregorio said Nespresso is expanding its sustainability story in the Philippines, as it sees promising growth in the country.

Nespresso is working directly with 120,000 partner farmers in 15 countries, ensuring a sustainable supply of high-quality coffee and improving the livelihoods of farmers and their communities.

While it has yet to reach out to coffee communities in the Philippines, Nespresso solidifies its commitment to sustainable business practices by incorporating a recycling corner at the boutique, encouraging patrons to drop off their used Nespresso aluminum capsules at the store

to be repurposed later into common household items.

In 2022, Nespresso operates a global retail network of 802 boutiques. — (FREEMAN)
