CEBU, Philippines - To serve the needs of its growing number of shoppers, VICSAL Development Corporation opened the Metro Wholesale Mart last October 6 in the old Cinema building at corner Colon and Pelaez streets, Cebu City.
Emily Borces Silverio, operations manager for Metro Supermarkets, said in an interview that the company felt the need to expand as the market continues to grow.
“As much as we want to expand our Metro Colon store, we can’t do so because of space limitation. So we decided to use the old Cinema building which is just perfect because it’s in Colon, it’s a prime location for trading and there is the convenience of transport,” she stated.
Carrying items needed by its clientele, Silverio said that the Metro Wholesale Mart caters to the wholesalers particularly sari-sari store owners and institutional accounts such as hotels, restaurants and caterers.
The Metro Colon, on the other hand, is primarily geared towards end-users and retailers. But according to Silverio, the store has also captured a significant number of wholesalers, in fact they contributed 30% percent to the store’s total sales.
Such figure, she added, resulted to longer lines and congested atmosphere in Metro Colon causing inconvenience on the part of regular shoppers.
“We want to decongest Metro Colon and give our shoppers a breezy shopping experience. Opening the Metro Wholesale Mart is our way of giving convenience to both our market segments – the wholesale and retail customers,” she told The FREEMAN.
Aside from a wide choices of merchandise and convenience, wholesale shoppers at Metro Wholesale Mart get discounts and freebies every now and then. (FREEMAN)
