CEBU, Philippines - When the new school year starts in a few weeks, students and other members of the academic community of the University of the Visayas (UV) will have timely access to official school information and announcements. This is made possible through the Infoboard service provided by wireless leader Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart).
UV recently signed up to use Smart’s Infoboard, a web-based communication tool for sending and receiving information within a specified community. It allows the UV administration to use any Internet-enabled computer to promptly reach via SMS as many as 10,000 students or more, to relay important announcements, such as enrollment schedules, and other useful information, such as study tips.
Students and other members of the UV community will receive such advisories via SMS sent to their cellphone registered to the Infoboard, wherever they are and at any time of the day, at no cost to them.
In turn, UV students may also use the service to text feedback, comments, and suggestions to the school, and ‘pull’ important information like grades and class schedules for only P1 per message – and without having to travel all the way to the campus.
Students whose Smart cellphones are registered to the Infoboard will also be able to take advantage of exclusive call and text offers.
“The Infoboard will be very beneficial to the UV community, especially during rainy season and unfortunate events when we need to send timely information to members of our community,” shared Atty. Joseph M. Baduel, Vice President for External Affairs of UV.
To date, Smart has partnered with more than 204 colleges and universities with more than 370 campuses nationwide for this service.
“This Infoboard solution supports our vision to connect and enable academic communities through unique and relevant services offered exclusively by Smart,” shared James Bernas, head of Smart’s Community Solutions team. - THE FREEMAN
