Aegis partners with TESDA, ACT for dual-training system

- Ehda Dagooc -

CEBU, Philippines - To meet the fast growing manpower requirement in its Cebu operations, Aegis Philippines has initiated a tripartite partnership with Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), and Asian College of Technology (ACT), for the first BPO dual-training-system (DTS) initiative.

Dubbed as “Earn and Learn” program, Aegis has tapped its training arm Aspire People Solutions to train teachers of ACT to assess students, who are qualified for the one-month DTS program of which curriculum is being approved and verified by TESDA.

Under the Republic Act 7686, the DTS brings together “establishments and the educational institution to share the responsibility of providing the trainee with the best possible job qualifications, the former essentially through practical training and the latter by securing an adequate level of specific, general and occupation-related theoretical instruction.

According to TESDA provincial office head for industry services Luisita “Inday” Yee, the “Earn and Learn” program is the first BPO related DTS being implemented in Cebu. The existing DTS program in Cebu is being implemented by other sectors such as manufacturing.

Aspire People Solutions senior manager Dennis P. Tagamolila said that Aegis People Support is needing at least 500 people a month in order to sustain the growing operations in Cebu.

But, in this particular program, Tagamolila said the company targets to train a total 320 graduates per month, and about 180 of whom are coming from ACT.

Aside from forging partnership with ACT, Aegis People Support also will formalize similar program with other universities and colleges in Cebu such as University of San Jose Recoletos (USJ-R), University of Cebu, and University of San Carlos (USC).

At present, Tagamolila said Aegis in Cebu has to temporarily seize hiring, due to lack of seats to accommodate the needed additional people.

Currently, the company is constructing its second building facility that is set to be completed on October this year, to accommodate the additional manpower capacity needed by Aegis. (FREEMAN)
