Able Services marks 20th year

CEBU, Philippines - Able Services, Inc., a licensed and registered service provider, has come a long way since its inception in 1992. Last March 16, it celebrated its 20th year of existence in the facilities management industry and made its mark as a highly reliable service provider, not only in Cebu, but also in other major provinces in the country. 

 It was established to answer the cleaning and maintenance concerns of a growing Cebu. Over the years, it has gained the reputation for being able to meet the high standards of its clients which counts some of the most reputable and recognizable institutions spanning the most diverse of industries --- from ISO semiconductor plants like Fairchild Semiconductors, to JCI-accredited hospitals like Chong Hua Hospital, to banks like BDO Universal Bank, to malls like Ayala Center, SM Iloilo and Gaisano, among others. For several years, Able Services cleaned the Ninoy Aquino International Airport, Mactan Cebu International Airport, vessels of Super Ferries, and aircraft of Philippine Airlines, Cathay Pacific and Singapore Airlines.

Over the years, President and CEO, Edwin Ortiz, has set his sights to a definitive set of directions meant to propel the company to greater heights and enduring presence. Business expansion was foremost in his mind. 

The success in cleaning service has encouraged him to offer manpower outsourcing services to complement its core competency of being a janitorial services provider. Able, then, ventured into Technical Services which offers painting, masonry, carpentry, and plumbing, and counting among its clientele are Shangrila’s Mactan Island Resort and Spa, DCD Construction, Probuilders Corp., etc. Another vital allied service that saw rollout is Pest Control which counts Cebu Ferries vessels and Supercat fastcraft as among its clients. To have a more comprehensive line-up of facility management services, Able recently included Landscaping and Ground Maintenance.

The success of Able Services gave birth to a another venture, a garbage collection company named Cebu Solid Waste Management, Inc. (CSWMI) 12 years ago. With a growing awareness of environmental concerns, CSWMI is putting up a zero waste material recovery facility with the main objective of properly handling waste in such a way that waste can be recycled and reprocessed and nothing will be thrown in landfills. To continually update himself on waste management technologies, Edwin Ortiz became a member of the International Solid Waste Association (ISWA).   (PR)

As part of their environmental advocacy and corporate social responsibility, and also, to kick off the 20th year celebration of Able Services, a tree planting activity by the management and staff of Able Services and affiliate companies was conducted last November 2011. They planted 2,000 seedlings of Mahogany tree in the mountain slopes of Brgy. Bahay, Sibonga bringing the number to almost 20,000 trees since the activity was started more than 10 years ago. 

Mr. Ortiz exhorted, “We can show to everyone how we can contribute in nurturing Mother Earth in our own little way. I started planting these trees together with some of the staff who are still very much around and had grown with the company over the years. These are the fully grown trees that you see around towering into the skies and giving shade to everyone underneath. Caring for the environment is top of mind in the conduct of business of Able Services. This is to ensure sustainability of the business and making tangible efforts towards the pursuit in the care and protection of the environment.” 

To cap the 20th year celebration of Able Services, the management and staff stayed overnight in Moalboal last March 17 to give them time to enjoy each other’s company and further strengthen the bond among them.
