CEBU, Philippines - This year’s Mandaue Business Month (MBM 2011) got a total of P6 million support from the local government units of Mandaue City and Cebu Province.
This support showed the commitment of the government to the cause of the business sector in Mandaue working together towards one goal to pursue economic development, especially helping the small businesses and countryside-based entrepreneurs.
Cebu Provincial Governor Gwen Garcia announced to give P3 million to the upcoming MBM 2001 event this August, while Mandaue City Mayor Jonas Cortes also pledged to give the same amount through the event’s organizer, Mandaue Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
In partnership with both Mandaue City and Cebu Province, MBM 2011, which will kick off in the first week of August, has lined up essential activities geared towards resolving recent issues affecting business and industries, specifically on uplifting the attention to environment-responsible operations among companies, strengthening the capabilities of entrepreneurs to pave the way for growth, encouraging women-in-business, among others.
Carrying the theme “Transformation through Innovation: Inspire.Educate. Advocate,” the month-long event aims to bring forth and showcase the best economic. Social and cultural endowments and potentials of Mandaue City—considered as the premier industrial hub of the South.
MBM 2011 chairman Stanley Go said that businesses should take the responsibility for the environment at this time, as well as focus on pursuing constant innovation in their products and services in order to remain competitive.
The way of doing business now has changed significantly. Companies should always be on their toes to keep up with the fast changing trends, as well as market’s preferences. Otherwise, “we will be left behind.”
On August 5 to 15, an Obra Negosyo Eskwela Exhibit will be held at the Cebu International Convention Center (CICC), which will be joined in by sixteen towns and municipalities. These exhibitors will be showcasing products that have undergone the transformation as a result of the business plans implemented by the program.
On the 9th of August, its anchor event the “One Cebu Business and Sustainability Summit” will be held also at CICC. Together with its partners, the Cebu Provincial Government and Mandaue City local government and the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI), the summit will focus on “Innovative Entrepreneurship; Paving the Way to Sustainable Economy” theme.
The summit will also showcase innovative success stories and best practices of individuals and organizations in the area of entrepreneurship. This is event will also be supported by the Ateneo Graduate School of Business and Go Negosyo.
One of the encouraging highlights of the event is the recognition of the women-in-business, through the “Search for Winners or Women in Need. Now Entrepreneurs and Role Models” program, led by MCCI board member Carmel Salvador.
About 27 women entrepreneurs from Mandaue City’s barangays will go through personality make-over and trainings to complete for the cash prizes to augment their business capitalization. (FREEMAN)
