Bad candidates

A candidate claiming to help ensure law as among his platforms of government probably needs to understand what he is saying.

The candidate’s convoy, which was parked illegally on a NO STOPPING zone caused traffic at D. Jakosalem St. last Friday afternoon.

We got wind of the situation when we were called by a CITOM official about the situation on the road near our office.

This is not the first time that we got reports about candidates or their convoy causing traffic congestion. We hope that the candidates would also be careful when doing their campaign so they would not inconvenience the people.

The voters can always remember your name on the day of the elections if you cause them inconvenience, but they would take note of your name to make sure you are not among those that they would vote for.

When we are in other parts of the country, many of us proudly say that we are Cebuanos. In fact, many of us would invite our friends to come over since Cebu is one place where life is not as fast as Manila, but you get a little of everything.

But, when we recently passed a portion of the North Reclamation Area near the city’s abattoir, we realized that this portion of the city has been left to rot for reasons that many of us don’t know.

The road is very rough and since it is the dry season, dust flies each time a vehicle passes the area.

Why has this place been forsaken? Are the people who live near the area and those who pass the place being punished for one reason or another?

This is not the only area in the NRA where the road has not been fixed. There are also many other streets there that would make you feel like you are in some war zone as the potholes aren’t potholes anymore, but more like craters.

We hope to see some improvements when the new administration takes over.

A resident of Talisay City sent us this brief note:

Sir, I’m sure you have passed corner Rabay St. at the Cebu South Coastal Road in the evening and have noticed that the lights are not anymore operational at that time. What I know is that when traffic lights are not being used, they are supposed to be blinking so as not to cause confusion, but that is not the case here.

I hope you can bring this up in your column.

I am a resident of Seaview Heights, but please don’t mention my name or email address. Thanks!

The reader above is right about the situation in this intersection as drivers, who are not familiar with the way the lights operate think that they have a red light and would stop for a long time until they realize that the lights are not working properly.
