Carcar: Living heritage of Cebu

Crispy Chicharon, sweet bocarillo, hand-made foot wear, ancestral houses... these are among what Carcar has come to be known for.

Now, what does Carcar offer apart from the ones mentioned? A lot. A peaceful place perfect for building ones abode, an ideal investment site and a place to rekindle with the past.

An emerging city, you could see this thriving town progressed into a metropolis without much pollution and congestion the typical urban community is having a hard time controlling.

The Department of Tourism apparently dubbed the town as the "Living Heritage Of Cebu" particularly because of its richness in history, culture, virtue and art. There are many other tourist attractions that Carcaranons are proud of like the Theotokos Shrine, the Mainit-Mabugnaw Spring, Bantayan Watch Tower and the Kiosk at the Carcar Rotunda. Moreover, Carcar is known for its Kabkaban Festival - an annual event held every 24th day of November in honor of its patron saint St. Catherine of Alexandria.

Carcar is known for its locally made shoes and its native delicacies like chicharon, ampao and bocarillo. Bolo-making and basket weaving is also one of the prevalent cottage industries among the Carcaranons.

The entry of Jollibee, Gaisano Price Club and other companies like residential developments, memorial gardens and financial institutions provide tremendous growth and job opportunities to the municipality.

Carcar's vision reads: "The Municipality of Carcar shall become a modern and progressive city with its peace-loving morally-upright friendly people living in an ecologically balanced environment, united in achieving a politically and economically stable community with emphasis on agro-industrial and eco-tourism while preserving its cultural heritage."

Advocating such vision, the town's local government unit is working hand-in-hand with the different sectors to reach the goals embedded in its vision.
