Digital duets: Nokia announces X6 music phone, Rihanna tie-in

For the release of Rihanna’s much-anticipated ‘Rated R’ album, which contains the hits ‘Russian Roulette’ and ‘Hard,’ the Island Def Jam Music Group and Universal Music Group International partnered with Nokia to bring her music via its latest music device, the Nokia X6.

MANILA, Philippines - Nokia and Rihanna. They both have sold millions globally and have made a mark in music. Now, these stellar stalwarts have come together for a groundbreaking project, which bridges the gap between the music and digital worlds.

For the release of Rihanna’s much-anticipated “Rated R” album, which contains the hits “Russian Roulette” and “Hard,” the Island Def Jam Music Group (IDJMG) and Universal Music Group International (UMGI) partnered with Nokia to bring her music via its latest music device, the Nokia X6.

“Nokia is extremely excited to collaborate with a talented and renowned artist like Rihanna to truly redefine the connection between artists and fans and to deliver unique experience and content across the globe,” said Benoit Nalin, general manager of Nokia Philippines.

The move is seen as the latest in the many innovations designed for record labels to adapt to the modern digital lifestyle.

For Rihanna fans, it couldn’t get any better. They get everything Rihanna on the new Nokia X6 touch-screen music phone, including the pop diva’s latest hits “Russian Roulette,” “Wait Your Turn” and “Hole in My Head” free with the inbox Universal Music voucher.

For those who want more Rihanna news, tracks, videos, themes and photos, they can download the Come Get Rihanna application free on Nokia’s Ovi Store.

And on March 13, Nokia will throw three big music parties to celebrate Rihanna and the new X6 in Manila hot spots Bed, Encore and The Manor.

Music lovers and Nokia fans alike can party with Brian Cua in Bed, DJ Mars Miranda in Encore and DJ Ace, and acts from Nokia’s Indie Artists Club like Kjwan, Techy Romantics, Salamin, Ambassadors and Ill-J in The Manor. The artists will put their own spin on some of Rihanna’s biggest hits.

The Nokia X6 is spot-on when it comes to providing applications for the fervent multi-tasker who leads an on-the-go lifestyle. It delivers a full-blown entertainment experience as well as a complete social entertainment center.

The new X6 lets users manage their entertainment and social life directly from the home screen using the phone’s Contacts bar and Media bar. The Contacts bar puts 20 friends and favorite social networking sites directly on the home screen.

The X6 also lets users keep in touch with their Ovi Contacts; they can chat, share their status, location, and even what song they’re currently listening to through the device.

They can even tweet about their daily musings, follow their favorite blogs, and create their own social RSS feeds! And since it’s a music phone, the X6 can help you release your inner DJ and create playlists on the phone - based on moods or even pre-selected songs.

Users can spend hours challenging themselves and their friends on three pre-installed games - Spore from EA, DJ Mix Tour and Asphalt 4 from Gameloft - and be able to enjoy it in crisp resolution on the Nokia X6’s 3.2-inch widescreen or plug it on their TV via the X6’s TV-out port.

And with the Ovi Store available in over 180 countries worldwide, users can easily download more games and apps on the Nokia X6.

A five-megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics and dual LED flash tops the list of the X6’s features. Shoot stunning images and videos with exceptional ease, instantly making you a budding paparazzi or music video director.

The Nokia X6 is available at all Nokia Stores and authorized retail shops nationwide at a suggested retail price of P22,000. It comes in black or white/pink combination.
