'Star' boosts Samsung's full-touch leadership

MANILA, Philippines – Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd., a leading mobile phone provider, announced the launch of Samsung Star (S5233).

Boasting compact design and intuitive usability, the Samsung Star answers the need of today’s customers for a full-touch phone at an affordable price.

Prior to its market availability, Samsung Star has attracted tremendous market interest and demand. Globally, it is the most awaited model, as more than two million units has been pre-ordered.

“Samsung Star is a significant addition to our full-touch screen mobile portfolio, featuring all the essential functions in one single device,” said Charles Choi, vice president of the Handheld Phones Division of Samsung Electronics Philippines Corp. 

“I am pretty confident that the Samsung Star will be one of our best-selling mobile phones. Focusing on our consumer-oriented strategy, Samsung will deliver various full-touch products for every lifestyle in the next few months” he added.

Samsung Star users can enjoy full Internet browsing with an accelerometer sensor for auto-rotation. For convenience, the phone also supports a QWERTY keyboard, “Gesture Lock” and handwriting features.

Samsung Star comes with the latest multimedia features in a slim and compact body that measures a mere 11.9 mm.

Adopting a 3.0-inch TFT full-touch screen and Samsung’s TouchWiz user interface with mobile widgets, the phone enables its users to enjoy their mobiles easily and intuitively.

The Samsung Star boasts various multimedia features including a 3.2-megapixel camera and video recording supporting TFT @15fps.

It supports multi-format and DNSe for ease of use and better sound quality. It also features music recognition using Shazam’s “Find Music” service.

To enjoy various multimedia content, the Samsung Star supports an 88MB memory capacity with an external memory slot up to 8GB.

Through the Gesture Lock feature, the phone will automatically unlock or go to various pre-assigned applications like contacts and messages by drawing a pre-assigned letter on the locked screen.

Using “Photo Contact,” users can call a contact by simply touching an appointed image.

The S5233 is Samsung’s most affordable full-featured, touch-screen phone to date with a retail price pegged at P10, 490.

It will be available in all authorized Samsung mobile dealers nationwide. It comes in various colors, including soft pink and snow white.
