Smart offers Olympic content via mobile

As the world starts watching the 2008 Beijing Olympics, subscribers of Smart Communications will be able to access the freshest Olympic news and watch the games live via their Smart handsets.

“We aim to make the mobile phone the leading channel for information and entertainment for our subscribers. When the Olympics comes around, Smart subscribers will have front-row access to the world’s greatest sports spectacle, right on their handsets,” said Jerome Almirante, head of Smart’s data and value-added services team.

The SMART wapsite (wap.smart.com.ph/olympics) will feature links to live streaming video, to enable subscribers to watch different sporting events being played simultaneously.

Smart subscribers just need to select or click on the link to the live video page and select any of the two live video feeds, which will each feature different sports events and programs. 

Game schedules and medal tallies will also be in the wapsite, as well as info on members of Team Philippines. 

Other content such as video clips of highlights of the Olympic events, and ringback tones and full-track formats of Olympics-inspired songs will also be available for Smart subscribers to download. 

Related materials such as Olympics- and sports-themed Java games and images of the Olympics will be on the wapsite, too.

Sports enthusiasts who want to keep abreast with Olympics information will have access to breaking news from Smart’s Olympics News page and also from trusted mobile Internet sources such as ESPN and NBC Sports, at only P10 for every 30-minute browsing. 

Subscribers may also choose to click on specific news items at P2.50 per article. To get daily Olympics news and updates via SMS, Smart subscribers need to text OLYMPICS to 2600 (P2.50 per text).

Alternatively, myTV subscribers will have exclusive access to live coverage of the Olympics until Aug. 24, in cooperation with Solar Sports.

MyTV subscribers can watch the most awaited sporting event of the year on myTV Channels 11 and 12 on their Nokia N77 and Nokia N92 handsets.

This access is offered for free exclusively to subscribers of myTV, the country’s first and only high-definition mobile TV service which broadcasts shows directly to a mobile handset so it works like a miniature TV set, complete with crystal-clear video and stereo sound.

MyTV is being offered by MediaQuest Holdings in cooperation with Smart.

Surfing the Smart wapsite is free; subscribers only pay for browsing mobile Internet sites such as ESPN and NBC Sports, and for downloaded content such as news articles, video clips, audio files, and streaming video.

Aside from Olympics-related content, the Smart wapsite also features other interest-driven portals such as the Smart Game Station, Smart Cinema Club, and the Smart Buddy Music Store, the first and largest mobile music portal in the country, as well as other premium entertainment content.
