Samsung unveils 5-megapixel G600

- Manny N. de los Reyes -

Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. introduced recently its new five-megapixel camera phone, the G600. Housed in a stylish black two-toned slider shell, the Samsung G600 is a fusion of aesthetics, photography and phone functionality.

Boasting capabilities more commonly seen in high-end digital cameras, the Samsung G600 includes features like auto focus, an image stabilizer and image editor, and even a built-in Power LED flash. It also has 4x digital zoom as well as various photographic modes such as panoramic or mosaic settings.

“The Samsung G600 is more than a style icon, it comes with a built-in five-megapixel camera that will help people capture and store their favorite moments,” said Charles Choi, Samsung Phils. vice president for mobile division.

“Since the market demand for five-megapixel camera phones is expected to grow significantly this year and the next few years, we are aiming to capture these market needs starting with the G600,” he added.

For a better viewing experience compared to other camera phones, the Samsung G600 incorporates a generously sized 2.2-inch QVGA TFT LCD with 16 million colors and a five-megapixel multi-function imaging system, enabling users to view larger pictures and helping them read text or Web pages in full.

The quad-band Samsung G600 is EDGE/GPRS-enabled and is also equipped with a host of multimedia features like an embedded MP3 player, which can be customized to individual tastes and preferences, and full Bluetooth v.2, USB v.2, and even TV Out connectivity.

Other multimedia smarts include compatibility with a wide gamut of audio files (MP3/AAC/AAC+/e-AAC+/WMA/WMDRM/MTP), a music library, an FM radio, and a multi-format video player.

The G600 has 60MB of onboard memory expandable via microSD card slot for up to 2GB of additional memory.

The G600 also benefits from improved Internet browsing, thanks to its NetFront Browser v.3.4, which provides PC-like browser capabilities on a mobile device. It even has built-in Yahoo and Google search.

But despite all these features, the G600 measures a compact 102 mm by 47.8 mm by 14.9 mm and weighs a relatively light 105 grams. It also boasts an intuitive camera user interface.

Samsung has demonstrated its camera phone expertise with the launch of the industry’s first high megapixel camera phones including the five-megapixel SCH-S250 in 2004, the seven-megapixel SCH-V770 in 2005, and finally the 10-megapixel SCH-B600 in 2006 — all for the Korean market.

Now thanks to the G600, the Philippines can finally experience Samsung’s convergence of a high-powered digital camera and a full-featured mobile phone in one device.
