It turned out to be another barrage of new products. In a recent press conference, Nokia unveiled its new range of handsets that cater from the highest to the lowest ends of the market.

Starting from the top, we’ve got the much-awaited new N-series multimedia computers – the N93 and N73. Offering state-of-the-art digital camcorder, telephony and rich Internet communication functionalities, the Nokia N93 features a 3.2-megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics, DVD-like video capture, 3x optional zoom and up to 20x digital zoom.

The N93 connects directly to a TV for a wide-screen movie experience and can upload images and videos to online albums or blogs. It can even create high-quality home movies and burn them to DVD with Adobe Premiere Elements 2.0 software included in the sales package.

"The Nokia N93 marks a new era in the digital camcorder market," said Parikshit Bhasin, country general manager of Nokia Philippines. "Incorpora-ting all the features you need for great quality movie-making, the Nokia N93 is a fantastic example of a multimedia computer with true digital camcorder perfor-mance at its core. Thanks to its connectivity, it allows you to immediately share the memories you’ve captured, taking the entire camcorder experience to the Internet age."

The N93 is ready to shoot videos and photos using the color landscape display as a full screen viewfinder. With its MPEG-4 VGA video capture at 30 frames per second, it delivers an unparalleled video experience with stereo audio recording and digital stabilization, enabling smooth and shake-free movies.

It has an internal memory of up to 50 MB, which can be further expanded with a hot swap miniSD card of up to 2 GB, allowing users to capture up to 90 minutes of video or close to 2,500 high-quality photos.

The Nokia N73, on the other hand, is a multimedia computer in a compact exterior with superb photography features and integrated stereo speakers to provide 3D sound for optimal audio pleasure. It also has a large 2.4-inch QVGA display, a 3.2-megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics and auto focus.

Music fans can tap into the Nokia N73’s integrated digital music player with playlists and equalizer or tune in to the FM radio, or simply enjoy produc-tivity features like e-mail, office applications, organizer, synchro-nization with a compatible PC and browse the Internet with the Nokia Web Browser with Mini Map.

On the business end of its product portfolio, Nokia announced the new E70, E61 and E50 – the first of the new Nokia Eseries. The Eseries combine attractive and easy-to-use designs that appeal to individual business users with technologies that allow IT departments to effectively manage security settings, corporate applications and data.

The E61 and E70 support today’s most popular corporate mobile e-mail solutions like IMAP4, POP3, SMTP, Nokia Business Center, BlackBerry Connectivity, Seven Push Email, Smartner, Altexia, and Visto Push Email.

The new Eseries are built on the latest Series 60 Platform, the world’s leading smartphone software platform. Series 60 3rd Edition, together with Symbian OS v. 9.1, provides an identical application environment for the E61 and E70. They include a variety of GSM frequencies and 3G (WCDMA) cellular network support for seamless roaming across different countries, as well as a range of local connectivity options such as WLAN, Bluetooth and infrared and are USB 2.0-compatible.

The E70 and E61 support advanced voice services such as Internet (Voice over IP) phone calls, Push-to-talk, and other SIP-based rich call services, giving businesses a variety of ways to make it easier for employees to collaborate or respond rapidly in or out of the office.

Companies deploying an Avaya or Cisco IP PBX can connect the new Nokia devices directly to their corporate phone networks, enabling functions employees have come to expect from a corporate network like four-digit dialing and assisted call answering.

The small, sleek, and stylish quad-band Nokia E50, on the other hand, is designed for people who want a single phone for both business and leisure use.

The device comes with pre-installed business applications, exceptional voice and calling functionality, and the ability to have two phone numbers in one phone, while lifestyle features include an MP3 player and optionally a 1.3-megapixel came-ra, all packaged in a discreet, glossy metallic case with a touch of color.

"When we carefully considered the requirements of our customers when developing these devices, two clear new trends emerged: the need for IT departments’ to have a secure and manageable platform, and the need for devices to support a variety of employee preferences and different working styles," Bhasin said.

On the 3G front, Nokia broadened its mid-range port-folio with the introduction of its most affordable 3G handset to date, the classically designed 6151. The classically designed Nokia 6151 phone offers 3G performance in a sleek and compact package.

"With more than 100 operators offering 3G services in the world today, consumers around the globe are now realizing the many benefits that 3G offers, ranging from faster browsing, streaming and e-mail to music downloads and multi-player games," said Bhasin.

"Its sleek design and affordable pricing makes the 6151 a very attractive 3G handset. Models like the Nokia 6151 are certain to make 3G services even more accessible to a broader range of consumers," he added.

Features of the 6151 include a 1.3-megapixel camera with dedicated key, 4x zoom, landscape mode and video recorder, 30MB of user memory which can be expanded with optional microSD memory card, music player, stereo FM radio and Visual Radio, Bluetooth wireless technology and Push-to-talk capability.

This new 3G handset will be available in a fresh color selection, including black, pearl white, orange, light blue and lime green color variants.

For the sporty set, Nokia launched the 5500 Sport, which features all the technology that that every active-minded consumer needs, and is specially designed to withstand the daily rigors of work and workout.

"There is a very sizeable number of consumers who are interested in sport-inspired products, even if they are not professional athletes themselves. The Nokia 5500 Sport offers these consumers a mobile phone that is suited to their specific lifestyle needs – whether it be for a workout session at the gym, a day at the beach or even that dress-to-impress first date," said Bhasin.

A single button serves to activate three dedicated "modes" – a phone mode to help you stay in touch, the music mode to enable you to unwind or power-up, and the sports mode to facilitate your workout.

The Nokia 5500 Sport also boasts a Nokia-first technology: text-to-speech. Don’t take your eyes off the track or that magazine, just tap the 5500 Sport and the message is read out to you.

In sports mode, the Nokia 5500 Sport reads the status of your workout, allowing you to stay focused on the task, or the exercise, at hand. In music mode, the 5500 Sport supports a wide range of digital music formats, including WMA, Mp3, eAAC and e AAC+, making the download and transfer of music a breeze.

The phone also supports microSD memory cards of up to 1GB with storage capacity of up to 750 songs, offering up to 10 hours of music. Equipped with a Nokia Sport Stereo headset in the sales package, it offers an enriched mobile music experience with its superior sound quality. Music enthusiasts can also enjoy visual radio and FM radio support on the phone.

As a sporting device, the Nokia 5500 Sport helps you keep track of work or your workout. The integrated pedometer monitors distance walked or calories burnt during a busy day in the city or that cardio session at the gym. For extra durability, the 5500 Sport features an ergonomic stainless steel casing, complemented by a splash- and dust-resistant shell and rubber grips.

Last but not least are the entry-level handsets: the Nokia 2610 and Nokia 2310.

"In 2008, Nokia expects that three billion people will be owning a mobile phone, with much of this growth coming from markets like China, India, Southeast Asia and Africa, where penetration levels are still relatively low," said Bhasin.

"One of the most important keys to success in these markets is to offer attractive, reliable, and easy-to-use mobile phones that are specifically designed to meet the unique needs of consumers in new growth markets," he added.

The Nokia 2610 offers an iconic design and a strong range of features for business-minded consumers. A first for entry-level phones, the Nokia 2610 includes e-mail support as well as mobile Internet access via a WAP browser. It features a color display with a mirror finish and enhanced features such as MP3 ringtones, voice recorder, and an integrated hands-free speaker.

The organizer in the Nokia 2610 gives optional weekly or monthly review of the local calendar and an application to manage basic finances.

For those with a mind for fashion and music, the Nokia 2310 phone offers a compact design matched with an equally outstanding array of colors. A short-cut key activates the FM radio, which features "sound visualization" – graphics that move in sync with the music. The 2310 offers polyphonic and MP3-grade ringtones.

For text-intensive Filipinos, the 2310 also offers a host of messaging options, including an SMS editor to avoid accidental deletions of messages, speed dial for SMS sending and a distribution list for creating and managing personal contact lists.

The 2310 also features the Nokia Prepaid Tracker, a network-supported application, which automatically updates users of their prepaid account balance after each call or message.
