Sony Ericsson showcases winning Walkman phone line

Will the wonders of the Walkman phone range ever cease? Sony Ericsson has announced the latest addition to its winning Walkman phone line, the W900i, the first 3G/UMTS Walkman handset, even while the groundbreaking W800i continues to earn raves.

Introduced with an array of innovative accessories like the home audio system MDS-70 and FM music transmitter MMR-60, the W900i brings the Walkman phone family to a total of three models.

The Sony Ericsson W800i, winner of the Best Music Phone award in the 2005 Mobile Choice UK Awards, started the ball rolling.

Aside from its obvious strengths as a device capable of playing up to 30 hours of music, the W800i boasts of a two-megapixel camera complete with auto focus, photo light, active lens cover and a digital still camera interface.

The music player and phone can also be used independently of each other. The user can switch the phone off for a plane journey, for example, while still enjoying the music player.

Sony Ericsson also recently announced the W550i for the Asia-Pacific. Designed for young, expressive fun seekers, the W550i can store from 60 to 120 standard music tracks.

It has a 1.3-megapixel camera and with its swivel design, also allows for exciting horizontal, two-handed mobile gaming.

Horizontal-mode games can also be played in portrait mode or an L-shaped mode using the keyboard. The W550i also supports multi-player, peer-to-peer gaming over Bluetooth.

The Sony Ericsson W900i Walkman phone also sports a swivel design and has a two-megapixel, auto focus camera with LED flash.

The camera can be operated with both hands in a horizontal position for maximum stability. The camera shoots video at up to 30fps (frames per second), double the speed of most conventional imaging phones and the playback quality threshold for television.

The W900i’s large internal 470MB user-free memory provides space for between 120 and 240 songs.

With a Memory Stick PRO Duo, currently available in retail outlets at up to 2GB, storage capacity is easily increased to 1,000 music tracks.

The handset also comes supplied with Disc2Phone PC software that allows the user to easily transfer music to the phone from audio CDs and a PC music collection.

The Sony Ericsson W800i is currently available in authorized Sony Ericsson dealers nationwide. The W550i and W900i are set to be released in the Philippines soon.
