Getting started with Siemens A60

- Eden Estopace -
The world’s estimated 1.5 billion mobile phone users are growing by the day. In the Philippines alone, at least 20 million of our roughly 80 million people have cellphones.

Mobile phone use is on the rise everywhere and each year more and more people are ready to embrace the mobile lifestyle, prompting cellphone manufacturers to scurry for a bigger share of the huge untapped market.

Youth and cellphone cultures are closely intertwined. As shown in the most recent Siemens Mobile Lifestyle Survey, the indispensability of the cellphone in people’s daily lives appears to be getting stronger in the Asia-Pacific and most people in the region, especially the youth, perceive phones as a technology extension of their personality.

Since most new users are young people, starter phones need not be fancy or complex. For one just starting to learn the ropes of mobile communications, a simple and inexpensive phone is highly recommended.

Yet, given today’s wireless technology, a starter phone need not also be bereft of features that can allow one to participate in the mobile culture, texting and imaging capabilities in particular.

Siemens A60 is the answer to the public’s clamor for a new phone customized to the need of first-time users. The A60 is a triband phone equipped with polyphonic ringtones and 4,096-color screen display. Weighing only 85 grams and measuring about 110 x 47 x 23 mm, it is small and lightweight and can easily fit in one’s pocket.

Since most young people today sport an active lifestyle and are almost always on the go, the A60 needs only two hours of charging at the most and its Li-Ion 700 mAh battery has a standby time of up to a maximum of 250 hours.

For a simple phone, it is also loaded with standard features found in almost all advanced phones such as an alarm function, a stopwatch, menu animation, clock, calculator, games and speed dialing keys.

As with other Siemens phones, the A60 can accommodate personal wallpapers, logos, color schemes, greetings and screensavers. If one opts for them, accessories like a headset, car kit and a data USB cable so that you can connect your phone to a PC, can also be purchased separately.

Moreover, the A60 is a WAP-ready phone that can connect to the Internet if the user is registered with a service provider. The phone, however, does not support Multimedia Messaging Service or MMS. But if texting is your passion, the A60’s Short Messaging Service (SMS) capability is on a par with other phones. Moreover, in addition to the standard text, you can insert simple sounds and animations that are preloaded.

According to the Siemens website, the A60 is a "phone for everyone." Even old mobile phone users can find delight in the A60 for its simplicity and ease-of-use features.

If your needs are not complex and you don’t really need a camera or a video phone, this one can truly satisfy your basic communication needs.

The basic rule in today’s mobile lifestyle is also pretty simple: you don’t have to pay a premium price for features or services you don’t need. If you are the type who would like to keep your needs to the basic, value-for-money phones like the A60 are always an option.
