Alcatel announced that it has signed an agreement with the Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co. (PLDT) to supply the telecoms giant its increasing requirements for digital subscriber line (DSL) solutions.
Under the agreement, Alcatel will deploy its Alcatel 7300 Advanced Services Access Manager, the industrys leading broadband access platform with the highest capacity and lowest power consumption, for PLDT throughout the Philippines.
George Lim, senior vice president of PLDTs Network Services Group, said, "By entering into the DSL supply agreement with Alcatel, PLDT continues to fulfill its commitment to make high-quality, high-speed and cost-effective broadband Internet services more available to PLDT subscribers."
Jean-Claude Hue, president of Alcatel Phils., said, "This is another significant win for Alcatel in the broadband arena. With our best-in-class DSL solution, we will support PLDT in expanding its network capacity and delivering a range of reliable high-speed Internet access and data services to its subscribers."
Alcatel sees the contract as reinforcing its leadership in the global DSL market, of which it enjoys about a 37 percent share.
To date, Alcatel has shipped more than 33.6 million digital subscriber lines, and its broadband access solutions are prominent in the networks of more than 70 of the worlds largest carriers.
