The Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co. (PLDT) was conferred the "Global Filipino Company" award by the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) during its Philippine Business Conference held at Manila Hotel.
The award recognizes PLDT’s leadership in achieving global recognition for its products and services, giving pride to the Filipino people.
"This is the first time the PCCI conferred such an award to honor an outstanding Filipino company," said PCCI president Sergio Ortiz-Luis.
PLDT’s products and services have cut across continents and the company’s dominance in the landline business has made it the telecommunications company of choice by other telcos worldwide.
Recently, PLDT set up its subsidiary PLDT Global to further bring the PLDT brand of products and services closer to Filipinos worldwide.
PLDT’s wireless subsidiary, Smart Communications, has launched many pioneering products that other companies in the region are emulating such as Smart Money and Buddy Load.
PLDT, the information and communications technology arm of PLDT, has also made waves in content development by recently bagging an award from Sony Ericsson for developing a multimedia game, "Aramith’s Quest," which is uploaded on Sony Ericsson phones such as the popular P800.
In the area of corporate finance, PLDT bested other regional companies by being awarded the "Best in Liability Management" by the prestigious Asset Magazine, and was adjudged as one of "Asia’s Best Credits" by the same institution. PLDT also ranked highly in recent corporate governance surveys in Asia.
"PLDT is honored to receive the Global Filipino Company Award," said Butch Jimenez, PLDT vice president for media and communications, who accepted the award for and on behalf of the company.
