Sony Ericsson shows apps, content tech in new phones

-
Leveraging on its leadership in mobile communications, Sony Ericsson now showcases the innovative application and content technology behind the Sony Ericsson P900 and Z600, the newest members of the company’s solid product portfolio.

Sony Ericsson’s drawing power lies not just in the phones’ physical appearance but also in the application and content technology bundled into these units. Building on the highly successful P800, the sleek-looking Sony Ericsson P900 is designed to provide high-powered business mobility to professionals on the go.

The Z600, on the other hand, appeals to trendy and style-conscious individuals with its unique clamshell design, colorful and exchangeable covers, and powerful imaging and messaging capabilities.

"Sony Ericsson phones highlight imaging, entertainment and connectivity," said Tong Kai-Loong, senior product marketing manager for applications and content of Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications International AB.

"Sony Ericsson leverages the design and technical capabilities of parent companies Sony Corp. and Ericsson to create compelling products that provide consumers with ease of use, personalization, and an out-of-the-box experience. These phones allow users to be connected everywhere, be entertained, and share special moments with friends, colleagues and family members – all with just one single device."
P900: The Mobile Office
The much-awaited P900 features significant upgrades such as video recording capability, 65K color touch screen and increased memory. It can record video clips for as long as the memory allows. The recorded video clips and video streamed to the P900 from elsewhere can both be inserted into MMS messages.

The P900 is a QuickShare product, incorporating the ease-of-use principle that Sony Ericsson first introduced in the T610.

"QuickShare has won consumer praise for being the smartest way for mobile imaging on the market. Not only can a picture be taken with only two clicks, it is also easy and intuitive to share pictures between the phone, a PC and other consumer devices – either locally over Bluetooth, infrared or cable, or across the mobile phone networks with MMS or e-mail," Tong said.

The P900 also features full PDA functions, while the browser supports HTML, WAP and cHTML content types. The much-praised Opera browser, designed to display practically all webpages on the Internet, comes on a CD with the P900, or is available for download from www.sonyericsson.com.

When viewing Internet content through this browser, pages are reformatted to fit inside the screen width and eliminate the need for horizontal scrolling, providing a fast and pleasant mobile browsing experience.

A wide range of downloadable applications and Java and Mophun games have been made available for the phone, turning the P900 into a device that can do much more than voice calls.

Included in the product pack is a CD containing the very popular racing game V-Rally in a 3D edition. The phone’s JogDial is used for accelerating, and together with the polyphonic sound, stereo headphones and 3D landscape details, the game play is getting closer to a console-type of gaming experience.

The flash memory has been increased from 32 MB to 48 MB RAM, upping the available user memory to 16 MB. A 32-MB Memory Stick Duo is included with the P900, while the phone’s Memory Stick Duo Slot supports Memory Sticks of up to 128-MB capacity, making it easy to create video or music libraries.

The P900 is based on Symbian OS v7.0 and the established UIQ user interface.
Personalization With Z600
With its stylish shape, exchangeable front and back Style-Up covers and 65K screen, the Sony Ericsson Z600 gives consumers the flexibility of changing the look of the phone, coordinating it with their clothes, car or mood. Along with the P900, the phone is one of the newest QuickShare products in the company’s portfolio.

The theme of personalization extends to the phone’s interior with a large color display ideal for Style-Up themes, images or wallpapers.

The phone comes with preloaded themes matching all standard covers. Additional themes are available for download from the Fun & Downloads section of the company’s website.

The Z600 also has a dedicated speaker for the 32-voice polyphonic sound, which reproduces musical ringtones and boosts the sound effects of the mobile games.

For the aspiring music producer, there is the Music DJ feature, a four-track music creation tool with which consumers can create unique ringtones and also send them to their friends.

The phone comes with several exciting games such as V-Rally 2, which provides hours of fun, played either by a single player or with somebody else via Bluetooth. For maximum flexibility in game downloading, the phone supports both Java and Mophun platforms which give access to over 100 games available for download from www.sonyericsson.com and other sites. The Multi-Action keypad allows for simultaneous key-presses to, for instance, move and shoot at the same time.
