Cebu engineering, IT studes get support from Motorola

In response to the need to train and develop engineers equipped with skills suited to the needs of the industry, Motorola Communications Phils. Inc. (MCPI) recently entered into an agreement with the College of Engineering of the University of San Carlos (USC) in Cebu.

The agreement involves the development of a courseware that will enhance the delivery of education, particularly in the fields of information technology and electronics engineering, in the university.

The courseware will be developed based on Motorola’s family of microcontrollers which are used extensively in computers, consumer electronic products such as TV, VCR, phones and numerous gadgets and households appliances.

The development of the courseware will be spearheaded by USC’s Department of Computer Engineering and will initially be implemented in the Department of Electronics and Communications Engineering.

"We are pleased to offer Motorola’s expertise and leadership in technology in the service of local education," said MCPI president Joju Quejada. "This initiative demonstrates our commitment to the future."

Motorola’s assistance is expected to help bridge the gap between the academe and the industry. "Our alliance with Motorola will definitely help USC in its efforts to produce engineers who possess the skills required by the industry," said USC president Fr. Roderick Salazar Jr., SVD.

The project is an initiative of MCPI’s Semiconductor Products Sector (SPS).
