A Size That Matters
December 17, 2001 | 12:00am
In this day and age when everything seems to be miniaturized, it is not a surprise to find everyone wanting his or her gadget as small as it gets.
Take cellular phones, for instance. Literally, this device has come in various shapes and colors, and has become smaller and smaller by the day. With the help of technology, phone manufacturers have also managed to put in all sorts of specs in such a small package that truly make mobile telephoning, indeed, worthwhile.
However, there are still instances especially in todays technology-driven way of life when size still and does matter. In the case of cellular phones, its all about the screen and the display.
This was what mobile phone manufacturer Panasonic had in mind when it recently launched its GD95 model. By far the only one of its kind in the market, the GD95 screen is so large its literally eye-catching. Anybody might even mistake it for a pocket television or a PDA (personal digital assistant). And here we thought only television screens can get bigger and wider.
Now, mobile phone users can see clearly with GD95s extra large-sized screen, making Internet browsing a whole lot easier through its WAP 1.2.1 browser. Its GUI (Graphic User Interface) feature and five-directional joystick navigation tool are just the icing on the cake, helping the user move around a WAP page more conveniently, thus taking their Internet experience a little closer to the real thing. Whats more, a text message of up to 160 characters in 10 lines can be read in a single view.
Still for text and e-mail buffs, the GD95 features a T9 text input to simplify the entering of messages and support for SMTP/POP 3 e-mail accounts. Moreover, the desktop hands-free feature allows the user to download e-mail SMS or WAP content while engaged in a conversation.
Business users can also get the most out of the GD95 with its internal modem for quick access to their corporate server or the Internet through a laptop.
Two games, 15 Puzzle and Mogular, also await the entertainment seeker.
If the extra large-sized screen of the GD95 is not enough for a user to stand out, the key then is to personalize further.
Through its downloadable polyphonic and recordable ringer features, users can make their favorite tunes and even their own voices as their ringing tones. If thats not personal and unique enough, users can choose from three backlights of different colors, as well as from 30 wallpaper graphics to be displayed on the screen when in standby mode.
Available in silver and metallic black colors, the GD95 may have an extra large display but it is still considerably light at 85 grams, with a dimension of 25.6 x 45.6 x 14.4 mm.
Now thats a size that definitely matters.
The Panasonic GD95 is now available at all Wireless stores in SM branches in Manila, Cebu, Bacoor, Megamall, Centerpoint, Southmall and Sucat; Greenbelt, and other cellular phone stores nationwide. Or call 893-1788, 816-4224, 638-1111 or 631-3710 for more details.
