SINGAPORE Nokia recently unveiled the first product in its new entertainment product portfolio.
Introducing a new design concept, the feature-rich Nokia 5510 was designed for trend-setting youths and those who enjoy music, games, messaging and accessing mobile services with WAP (Wireless Application Protocol) while on the move. The product will be commercially available in the fourth quarter.
"The new concept introduced in the Nokia 5510 challenges people to look at using mobile phones in a totally new way. As mobile phones are increasingly going beyond being voice- and SMS-driven, we are introducing a new category of phones, which offers new and exciting mobile entertainment features such as music, games and messaging," said Nigel Litchfield, senior vice president of Nokia Mobile Phones Asia-Pacific.
"The Nokia 5510 is the first. We believe that this new phone will appeal particularly to the youth as they enjoy messaging and entertainment on the move and are early adopters of new devices," Litchfield added.
Designed with a totally unique form factor, the Nokia 5510 has an integrated digital music player, a digital music recorder, a stereo FM radio, home stereos and portable music systems with compatible cables provided.
Users can also rip music files from their own CDs and download them to the Nokia 5510 by using the Nokia Audio Manager PC software and connectivity cable provided in the sales package. While on the move or playing games, users can listen to music on either the music player or the FM radio.
Featuring a full QWERTY keyboard, the uniquely designed entertainment phone is also the perfect device for messaging with features such as a multiple SMS chat (where operators services are available), multiple SMS sending, SMS concatenation as well as downloadable gamepacks and animated screensavers via WAP.
The keyboard also facilitates typing and the use of WAP e-mail. Its other features include the ability to create music libraries and playlists with the Nokia Audio Manager software, automatic radio channel search and the capacity to store up to 10 preset radio stations. Users can also store up to two hours of music in the phones 64 MB memory.
With a full keyboard providing ergonomic game controls for two-hand use, the Nokia 5510 is also excellent for mobile gaming. The games provided on the phone include Bumper, Space Impact, Snake II, Pairs II and Bantumi.
In the Asia-Pacific market, the Nokia 5510 comes in Allegro Blue in the standard sales package. Using a 950 mAh BLC-2 Li-on battery, it has a talktime from two hours and 30 minutes to four hours and 30 minutes, and a standby time from 55 to 260 hours. With the digital music player on (no other phone functions are being used), users can use the phone for up to 10 hours, and with the radio on, for up to 13 hours and 30 minutes.
