HP sets up testbed for 2.5G in AsPac

Hewlett-Packard has set up Asia-Pacific’s first 2.5G/GPRS testbed for mobile applications in the Asia-Pacific.
With this testbed facility, HP will be able to provide test solutions for wireless applications not only for 2.5G/GPRS, but also for 3G, i-mode or WAP (Wireless Application Protocol).
Currently, the industry does not have a 2.5G/GPRS testbed in the Asia-Pacific where developers can test and certify their GPRS applications.
The testbed will be hosted within HP’s Mobile e-Services Bazaar in Singapore to help facilitate customers and Bazaar members wishing to gain HP/NCC Global certification status for their wireless applications.
This facility is a joint initiative of HP and NCC Global, a leading authority in telecommunications testing, messaging and WAP.
HP will be working with AirGateway, a Singapore-based premier carrier grade wireless product and telcos’ value-added service company, to carry out the implementation and systems integration of the testing facility.
AirGateway is the only officially appointed distribution and implementor of NCC certification tools in the Asia-Pacific.
By setting up this 2.5G/GPRS testbed, HP hopes to fill the gap in the market and provide value-added services to its Bazaar members with this facility.
The potential of this GPRS test and certification facility allows developers to link their GPRS infrastructure "live" onto network service providers’ infrastructure more easily since they now have a way of certifying their GPRS applications.
The testbed is planned to cover the testing process and infrastructure, and undertake load and performance testing of wireless applications by corporate technology and solutions’ partners.
