NEC Telecom takes the fast lane

A Cebu-based software firm took the fast lane in optimizing its local area network setup by integrating Gigabit Ethernet into its connectivity backbone.
NEC Telecom Software Phils., a company engaged in the development of operations management software for transmission systems and systems engineering, increased its capacity tenfold using Gigabit Ethernet equipment it purchased from 3Com Phils.
"The upgrade was primarily due to the expansion of our operations," said Nelanie Luth Nimis, senior design engineer of NEC Telecom Software’s Network Administration Center.
"We now have two offices located in different floors of Keppel Center at the Cebu Business Park. The increase in population also meant we needed to upgrade our backbone as servers were now being accessed at almost twice the rate as before," Nimis added.
Using the 3Com Gigabit Ethernet SuperStack 3 Switch 4900, NEC experienced gross improvements in its network through enhanced backbone switching where a bandwidth of 1Gbps is available to access internal network resources, Nimis said.
The 12-port 1000BASE-T copper cabling switch delivers high-performance Gigabit Ethernet switching and faster data rates to LANs, thus enabling reliable communication services between applications.
"Gigabit Ethernet is a simple yet powerful technology designed to meet the need for speed, easy configuration and cost-effectiveness, making it an ideal solution for small to mid-sized networks with growing bandwidth requirements," said Kenneth Palacios, 3Com Phils. country manager.
