Top 5 Smartphones that deserve your holiday bonus this year

YOU GOT TECH - Abe Olandres - The Philippine Star

If you’re on the lookout for a new smartphone and your Christmas bonus is more than enough, then we have five recommendations to choose from.

Most employees look forward to the Christmas season because it means they will be getting their bonus and incentives around this time.

For many, it’s the time to really spend on a single biggest purchase as a Christmas gift to oneself or to a loved one. It could be a brand-new car, a 60-inch TV, or the latest and best smartphones currently in the market.

If you’re on the lookout for a new smartphone and your Christmas bonus is more than enough, we have these five recommendations to choose from:

Samsung Galaxy Note 5. Samsung’s best smartphone to date is a tossup between the Galaxy Note 5 and the Galaxy S6 Edge Plus but we tend to gravitate towards the former as it’s more practical and offers additional features not found in its rival cousin. With a 5.7-inch quad-HD Super AMOLED display and a Gorilla Glass 4 protection at the front and back, the Note 5 is easily among the most gorgeous and powerful handsets this year. The S Pen stylus is a feature unique to the Note series and a source of envy among competing brands. The Galaxy Note 5 starts at P36,990 for the 32GB model.

Sony Xperia Z5 Premium. Currently, it is the only smartphone in the market that sports a 4K display. That’s four times full HD/1080p resolution. We know it’s an overkill considering that 4K is not even a standard in most large-sized TV displays. Sony also made subtle changes in the design and now uses stainless steel metal instead of the usual aluminum alloy. The Z5 is also sandwiched in a glass-on-glass design  with the backside so glossy it could pass off as a mirror.

Google Nexus 6P. Google’s best Nexus device ever, the Nexus 6P is manufactured by Huawei, which introduced a 5.7-inch quad-HD display, a powerful SnapDragon 810 processor paired with 3GB of RAM running on the latest Android 6.0 Marshmallow. Best of all, you are assured to get first dibs on newer releases of Google Android updates in the next few years. The Nexus 6P is coming this December for a little over P30,000.

LG V10. Aside from the G4, LG also has the V10 as its newest flagship device. The LG V10 boasts of a unique dual-display at the front. The second screen sits on top of the main display and is exclusive to selected apps and device notifications. Packed in a premium stainless steel frame, the V10 has passed military standards for transit drops. The LG V10 will be released by the end of the month and has a suggested retail price of P37,990.

iPhone 6S Plus. If you’re an Apple fan, then the new iPhone 6S Plus is surely there on your Christmas list. While there’s not much difference between the iPhone 6S Plus and last year’s iPhone 6 Plus in terms of design, all the raw goodness has been packed inside this 5.5-inch smartphone. With Force Touch, you get better interaction with the screen as it responds with the pressure of your touch.  The iPhone 6S Plus starts at P37,990 and you can also pick the new Rose Gold color.
