MANILA, Philippines - Environmental advocates and app developers will gather from Sept. 4 to 6 to discuss and devise technology-based solutions to climate change at “Hack-the-Climate.”
The main conference will be held at Henry Sy Sr. Hall, De La Salle University from 8 a.m. to -7 p.m. on Sept. 4. The hackathon is a 34 hour affair that will take place at the Microsoft Office.
The conference and hackathon is co-hosted by Watson Institute Philippines.
The event will explore different aspects of climate change mitigation and resiliency. Topivs for the conference include: Education, marine & wildlife protection, waste management, environmental protection, green technology, ecotourism, renewable energy and disaster response.
To design the social entrepreneurship component of the conference, the organizers decided to tap Watson Institute Philippines – an accelerator program for young social entrepreneurs headquartered in Boulder, Colorado, US.
“Our goal is for our participants to not only come up with innovative apps and devices, but economically sustainable start-ups,” said project head and Watson Institute community builder Raya Buensuceso.”This is the most practical way to ensure that their tech creations will continue to grow and make a difference. We also wanted to open this year’s event to individuals who may not know how to code, but who are equally passionate about protecting the environment.”
Hack The Climate Awards will be granted to nominated corporate and non-corporate organizations that are taking steps to tackle climate change.
