Dell rounds up tech milestones in 2013

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Dell Philippines recently rounded up the company’s technology milestones in 2013 and shared its focus for the upcoming year in a scintillating event with customers.

An electrifying night with top officials from the world leader of end-to-end solutions and its close partners, Microsoft and Intel, showed guests the wonder of technology innovations that will affect the way they do things today and in the future.

Dell Philippines country manager Christopher Papa presented a recap of these achievements for 2013.

Papa revealed the key events Dell initiated the past year, including the first Dell CIO Summit and Solutions Tour 2013. Dell reached out to major cities and provinces outside of Metro Manila for this solutions roadshow, including Laguna, Cebu, Davao, Cagayan de Oro City, and Clark, Pampanga. It also sponsored Healthcare Innovation Solutions Day in Manila that showcased technology in enhancing healthcare systems.

But what triggered interest in his presentation was his delving on the hottest topic of the new Dell: the company’s recent privatization. Yes, Dell has now become the “largest start-up” after founder Michael Dell and Silver Lake Partners acquired the company from its public stockholders to the tune of $24.9 billion.

According to Papa, this will lead to an exciting new chapter for Dell — being private means a bold new entrepreneurial spirit that will benefit long-term product and solution strategies for all its customers.

After this, he said, Dell will prioritize solutions and services for enterprise customers, expand its sales coverage and focus on emerging markets, investments for its PC and tablet businesses, and simplified and improved customer service experience.

Dell Philippines president Richard Teo, meanwhile, stressed all of the company’s important corporate social responsibility efforts.

Teo mentioned the company’s CSR and volunteer programs that include cash and equipment donations to the Typhoon Yolanda relief drive through UNICEF and NetHope, plus long-term projects with charitable institutions — Children’s Joy Foundation and Child Hope Asia Philippines.

Christopher Syling, Intel Philippines business development manager, then presented the future of computing powered by the chipmaker’s next generation microprocessors.

In 2013, Dell broke ground with its impressive line of Windows 8-powered products, including the Latitude 10 tablet, Optiplex 9010 All-in-One with optional touch screen, Latitude 6430u ultrabook, and the XPS 12 hybrid convertible tablet-notebook PC. These became the toast of the client PC market as they received acclaim from PC experts and tech editors from leading publications and blogs.

Mon de los Reyes, OEM accounts manager of Microsoft, represented the global software company to reinforce the partnership and to share best practices on Windows XP migration.

Also a key highlight for Dell in 2013 was the launch of the PowerEdge VRTX, the enterprise-class solution designed as a “Private Cloud in a Box” for remote offices and branch offices (ROBO), as well as SMBs (small and medium businesses).

Dell then took the exhilaration further with Kang Yeong Wong, ASEAN regional sales manager for Dell SonicWALL, presenting exciting enterprise security solutions to protect crucial company data and infrastructure. This further emphasized that Dell is no longer a plain hardware company, but also a serious software provider.

Underscoring the company’s commitment to the software business, Dell’s volume licensing partner Absolute Software highlighted the lifecycle management solution offering, represented by its regional director for Southeast Asia, Sang Lai Cheah.

Guests who were on hand to witness these important IT innovations included Saleh Haji Munshi, managing director for Dell Indonesia and South Asia developing markets, and Calum Chisolm, Intel country manager.
