Coby pushes Kyros tablets for educational use

Manny N. de los Reyes - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Coby, a US-based consumer electronics brand, has found a way to make the learning process easier for students and teachers by incorporating some fun into learning. The company is providing affordable and versatile tablets whose features and quality are at par with high-end brands.

Coby currently has three tablet models that parents can choose from for their kids: the MID 7048 (seven-inch screen), MID 8042 (eight-inch screen), and MID 9740 (9.7-inch screen).

All three tablet models boast capacitive multi-touch screens, lightweight bodies, and heavy-duty construction, ensuring parents of the device’s practicality for everyday use.

One example of Coby’s practicality and ease of use for young children was when a local private school in Marikina City benefited from their use of Coby tablets in the classroom. Having integrated the school’s curriculum to the Coby tablets being used by the students, it instantly became a handy instructional tool.

The numerous features of the Coby Kyros — which runs on the Android Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0 operating system — allow teachers to be able to transfer files faster via its USB port, make perfect and seamless presentations through its HDMI output, and make use of its video conferencing tool using the front camera.

At the same time, due to the device’s rich texture and capacity to play videos, music and photo formats, the students are able to quickly grasp the course programs integrated into the device.

Moreover, an e-book reader application is available for teachers so they can download and read thousands of books faster. E-books are usually in PDF file format, making it easy for teachers to include all course programs.

The bright and clear display plus the novelty of the medium ensure that students will not have a hard time reading and understanding the contents of the book.

The Federation of Associations of Private Schools and Administrators (FAPSA) recognizes how the use of tablets can be beneficial to students.

“The usual noisy campus has become quieter and the students prefer to look into the next lesson in their tablets. Also the macro academic skills now include viewing to the usual listening, speaking, reading and writing — thus technology is really a part now of the students’ lives,” Eleazar Kasilag, FAPSA president, said.

Students and teachers attest to the performance and quality of the Coby tablets and are bent on making these a part of their daily lives whether in school or at home.

“After all, education and technology are for everyone who is willing to grab it. Through Coby, learning has been easier and more enriching,” said an official of Red Dot Philippines Inc., official distributor of Coby products in the country.
