PLDT Cloud to boost local adoption of cloud computing

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - With the launch of its own public cloud infrastructure, the Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co. (PLDT) is set to further boost cloud computing adoption in the Philippines.

“Leveraging on our massive investments in network enhancements and data center expansion, PLDT can provide for present and future ICT needs as businesses become more complex and competitive,” said Vic Tria, PLDT vice president and head of corporate business solutions.

“Through our new enterprise-grade public cloud infrastructure, we are making cloud computing more accessible across all organizations,” Tria said.

The adoption of cloud computing across enterprises has been growing globally, as its self-service business model makes virtual computing resources and various software-as-a-service solutions conveniently available on demand, for rapid deployment and use.

The leading telco’s massive and robust public cloud infrastructure thus enables PLDT to add this transformative technology to its portfolio of ICT services that already includes several private-cloud offerings.

PLDT Cloud, a suite of cloud-delivered solutions which makes use of PLDT’s public cloud infrastructure, will provide companies all the benefits of cloud computing, from scalability, security and cost-efficiency.

PLDT Cloud, which includes Infrastructure-as-a Service (IaaS), allows organizations to have immediate access to “limitless” computing resources. With the scalability of PLDT’s public cloud infrastructure, sudden upswings in business needs are easily provided; companies can get additional requirements faster, or reduce resources when these are no longer needed.

The high availability of computing resources removes the need for companies to make huge investments in IT. They no longer have to create a traditional IT infrastructure that includes expensive and redundant servers, storage and licenses, nor fret about the costs of hiring experts to maintain their systems.

PLDT Cloud solutions are offered on a subscription model that lets enterprises get computing power on demand, paying only for actual usage while still enjoying full security and control of these computing resources.

PLDT’s public cloud infrastructure has the capacity to support multiple customers. Recognizing that security is of paramount importance, it employs stringent measures to ensure the secure sharing of IT resources among a larger pool of users.

The infrastructure is also enabled by PLDT’s extensive data network and hosted in the VITRO network of data centers to ensure high availability and performance of computing resources. Partnerships with leading cloud and IT players also ensure the use of best practices to provide exceptional levels of service.

With PLDT’s beefed-up cloud portfolio, customers can now select the service delivery model that suits their IT needs best.  “They can choose between our quick-to-deploy and highly scalable solutions off our own public cloud, and from our suite of private cloud solutions which can be deployed on-premise,” Tria said.

“PLDT Cloud is designed to address the enterprise market’s growing ICT needs without resorting to the traditional approach of heavily building up one’s own physical IT infrastructure. They can just subscribe to it as a service,” Tria said.
