Smart powers University of San Carlos Infoboard

-

MANILA, Philippines - The network of schools powered by the Infoboard service of Smart Communications Inc. has now expanded to include one of the top universities outside of Metro Manila — the University of San Carlos (USC) in Cebu.

In a turnover ceremony recently held at the USC campus, Smart and USC jointly unveiled the new USC customized SIM and USC Infoboard — a Web-based group messaging service, which will allow the school to upload, manage and send customized information to all the members of its community.

Through the USC Infoboard, students can send feedback and access school announcements, such as class bulletins, campus events, tuition, student grades and other information, including Smart’s latest promos and events, with just a few clicks on their mobile phones.

The platform will also enable USC and its students to send and receive information via text for only P1 per message.

“We are very happy to expand our partnership with the University of San Carlos,” said Danilo Mojica, head of Smart’s Wireless Consumer Division.

“The Smart Infoboard platform is a very powerful communication tool that will enable USC to reach out to the members of their community,” he added.

The new USC SIM and USC Infoboard are enhancements to the current partnership between USC and Smart.

The university has been one of the member-schools under the Smart Wireless Engineering Education Program (SWEEP) since 2003.

It is also a key part of Smart’s project with the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology to develop remote monitoring systems aimed at increasing community disaster preparedness in hazard-prone areas.

USC is also currently part of Smart’s Application Developers’ Intro School (ADIS) program, which is one of the community service initiatives of Smart in the fields of IT and education.

To date, over 230 schools and campuses have partnered with Smart for the Infoboard service.

Moving forward, additional enhancements to Infoboard are expected to make things even more exciting and interesting for Smart partner schools, including special call and text rates and offers specifically designed for students.

“We are confident that the alliances we have built over the years, and now, this partnership with USC, will serve to push us to excel in what we do - that is, to provide the communications infrastructure that will enable schools and other institutions, to offer new and innovative services to a wider audience, whenever and wherever possible,” Mojica said.
