Convergys to hire 3,600 additional workers

- Eden Estopace -

MANILA, Philippines - Convergys Corp., a business process outsourcing (BPO) company and now the largest private employer in the Philippines, is hiring 3,600 additional workers in its 12 contact center facilities in the country.

Marife Zamora, Philippines country manager and managing director for the Asia-Pacific and EMEA, said this will bring the company’s workforce to about 25,000 by the end of the year from the current pool of over 20,000.

The expansion accommodated 2,300 additional workstations for its contact centers and allowed the creation of 3,600 new jobs in Metro Manila (2,800), Bacolod City (600), and Cebu City (2,000).

Zamora disclosed that the outstanding performance and overall high client demand for Philippine-based services allowed the company to expand at this time.

“I thank our 20,000-strong workforce, as our continuous expansion in the Philippines is the result of their hard work and dedication to provide our clients and their customers with the best possible service experience,” Zamora said.

Convergys’ services span a broad range of industries, including technology, telecommunications, cable, financials, health care, and retail, among others.

Since moving into the Philippines in 2003, Convergys has established 12 contact centers — seven in Metro Manila, three in Cebu City, one in Bacolod and one in Sta. Rosa, Laguna.

As new jobs are created within the organization, Convergys has tapped social media in its recruitment efforts. As the average age of the employees range from 21 to 28, Zamora said they are leveraging on the power of new media trends to boost its recruitment efforts.

To begin the process of application, one can still e-mail resumés to [email protected] or simply use the ubiquitous mobile phone and text “APPLY” to 2600.

To get up-to-date job openings, one must follow Convergys’ recruitment account on Twitter, Multiply and Friendster or search for “Convergys Philippines” on Facebook.

By tapping the power of social networking sites to reach out to its intended public, Jomari Mercado, Convergys director for business development, said the company aims to address the talent pool that congregates in this new social media space.

For Zamora, what makes Convergys an attractive working environment for the young is its culture of excellence and operational efficiency.

At the height of the recent typhoon, she said Convergys’ operations continued to run 100 percent as the systems are really so well in place for mitigating natural disasters such as a weather disturbance and a power blackout.

Convergys executives admitted though that boosting the English language efficiency of their current workforce, on which their world-class service is anchored, is part of the top priorities of the company to maintain its talent pool.
