IT for docs with Pharex-PAFP's Health Informatics Program
MANILA, Philippines - Pharex HealthCorp. one of the country’s pioneers in generic medicine, has once again partnered with the Philippine Academy of Family Physicians (PAFP) for the Health Informatics Program, a computer education support program which was one of the top activities at the recent PAFP annual convention at the PICC.
Now on their seventh year as partners not only for health but also for the continuing medical education of family physicians, Pharex and PAFP conducted the program to provide family physicians with the latest updates on computer applications.
“As we all know, know-ledge of information technology is now a necessity in whatever profession we are into. With this partnership, we want to help our busy doctors get the latest developments in computers and help them apply these updates in their practice,” said Liza Camba, product manager of Pharex HealthCorp.
Health Informatics or Medical Informatics combines the teaching of information science, computer science, and health care.
The program aims to help doctors learn about the resources, devices, and methods required to optimize the acquisition, storage, retrieval, and use of information in health and biomedicine.
The tools used in this program include not only computers, but also clinical guidelines, formal medical terminologies, and information and communication systems.
The recently concluded three-day training was attended by over 250 physicians who want to be adept not only in computer application but also on the latest in health care and medicine.
The program was divided into three modules, each providing a three-hour course on basic computer applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; creating electronic or printed patient medical records for clinical use; searching medical literature for health information needs and guidelines; and learning the basics of electronic medical records for creating simple patient record database.
Aside from conducting the program during the annual convention, Pharex and PAFP also conducts the Health Informatics computer training program in areas across the country needing computer training and tutorials.
This ensures that the needs of doctors for computer education and information technology in the provincial areas are met to help them cope with the changing times.
The Health Informatics Program is just one of Pharex HealthCorp.’s ongoing efforts to help doctors in their continuing medical education and promote high quality and affordable medicine to the public.
