Neo introduces new Edge line of ultra-portable notebooks

- Manny N. de los Reyes -

MANILA, Philippines - Right at the forefront of the trend toward ever-thinner, ever-slimmer mobile computing devices, Neo Philippines has unveiled its new lineup of thinner-than-an-inch yet feature-rich notebooks and netbooks.

Aptly called “Edge,” the new laptops from Neo were carefully designed to strike an amazing balance between ultra-portability and performance, with three new exciting models that perfectly fit the fast-paced lifestyle.

The first model in the Edge series is the Neo Edge Z3240, a full-featured but ultra-thin notebook. It sports a 13.3-inch WXGA LCD display with a 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio. Utilizing an ultra-low voltage Pentium processor with 2MB of L2 cache and 3GB of system memory, this is truly a traveling executive’s machine.

The 120GB SATA hard drive measures a mere 1.8 inches, keeping the notebook’s weight and thickness to a minimum. Its connectivity options include USB 2.0 and HDMI. VGA, LAN, and additional USB ports are provided by the mini port replicator, which is bundled free with the Z3240.

It also provides wireless connectivity through Bluetooth 2.0, Wi-Fi, and even 3G/HSDPA using a local 3G-enabled SIM card.

Perhaps the most notable feature of the P45,999 Edge Z3240 is its ultra-thin design, sleek silver metal finish, and lightweight construction. It tips the scale at less than 1.4 kg and is less than 22-mm thin.

Not to be outdone, the P45,999 Edge Z3265 is still thinner and lighter than most notebooks at only 23 mm (closed height) and weighing less than 1.4 kg. It has the same 13.3-inch LCD size and aspect ratio with the added bonus of HD resolution.

Running on an ultra-low voltage Core2Duo processor with 3MB of L2 cache and 2GB of system memory, the Edge Z3265 boasts of a much higher CPU class with dual core advantage to boot.

The 320GB SATA hard drive is also more than double the capacity of the previous model. It is complemented by connectivity options, including USB 2.0 ports and HDMI for playing high definition video and audio content on compatible HD LCD screens. It also provides wireless connectivity via Bluetooth 2.0, Wi-Fi, and 3G/HSDPA.

While perhaps a little more conservative in aesthetics, the Edge Z3265 is still eye candy with its glossy finish, sleek dimensions, and lightweight feel. (A slightly lower spec’d Edge Z3260 with a dual-core Pentium processor retails for P39,999.)

Last but definitely not the least, a notebook line devoted to the thin and light won’t be complete without a netbook — and the Neo Edge Z1280 satisfies that gap.

The P23,999 Edge Z1280 is more than just your average netbook. Slim and light, it features a 10-inch widescreen LCD and weighs less than 1.4 kg even with a six-cell battery — ideal for long computing hours on the road.

Powered by Intel’s Atom N280 processor technology, which was designed with the Internet and low power consumption in mind, the Z1280’s performance is greatly enhanced by the free upgrade to 2GB of RAM and a jump to 320GB of hard disk space.

Additional features such as a multi-format card reader, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth give more storage and wireless connectivity. The Z1280 sports an elegant dark toned finish.

Every Neo Edge laptop comes pre-installed with the latest Microsoft Windows operating systems such as XP, Vista or the upcoming Windows 7.
