PLDT SME Nation's Watcher marks 1st local e-golf tourney

MANILA, Philippines - The classic sport of men is fast approaching technological innovation, thanks to groups like PLDT SME Nation.

Recently, the VisMin Group of PLDT SME Nation teamed up with the Copa de Casino Español for the first e-golf tournament in the country at the Mercedes Plantation Golf Club in Bogo, Cebu.

The idea of an e-golf tournament came about after the successful launch of the PLDT Watcher, PLDT SME Nation’s Web-based video monitoring solution for business owners, in Cebu also recently.

“While others were aware of the technological innovation, nobody really knew who to contact. Good thing PLDT SME introduced this product, everybody was just thrilled and we even utilized it in a golf tournament,” says Nonoy Tirol, Copa de Casino tournament director for e-golf.

PLDT Watcher units were set up in key areas of the golf course, including the tee-off points, approach on the ninth, and putting green of the 18th, to monitor the action.

Aside from securing that every player’s move and swing were viewed and could be reviewed, this state-of-the-art product also gave way for other golf enthusiasts to watch a live video feed of the match at Club Alta Vista, Cebu Country Club, and Cebu Casino de Español in real time.

Utilizing PLDT Watcher’s wireless connectivity and live broadcasting feature, the e-golf tournament was broadcast directly to other members of the Copa de Casino Español in Cebu City, a three-hour drive away from Bogo town.

“We were the first-ever to hold the e-golf here in the Philippines and it was very much welcomed,” says Nilo Bantilan, PLDT SME VisMin business head. “We set up large screens at the Cebu Country Club and Alta Vista and we beamed live and without delay through wireless connection, the action from Medellin.”

Projection screens were set up at the Copa de Casino Español where several players from different associations who competed in the tournament were able to view the game.

Winners of the first e-golf tournament were Anthony Bejar, Jun Tolentino, Jovy Mendoza and Nolan Rada from the first division, and Jose Rodriguez, Jay Lee, Jaime Selar and Vicente Yap from the second division.

With the success of the first e-golf tournament many are looking forward to making this tournament an annual event for Copa de Casino Español.
