Asus introduces Eee PC Seashell

- Alma Buelva -

MANILA, Philippines - Asus, the company behind the popular line of Eee PC computers, has a new model that takes inspiration from the beauty of seashells.

Aptly called the Eee PC Seashell, its exterior case is made from an opalescent glossy material made by applying In-Mold Roller technology that not only gives it a unique coloring but also scratch-resistant protection.

Inside its “shell” sits an Intel Atom N280 processor, a 2.5-inch SATA II 160GB hard disk drive as well as a 10GB Eee Storage and 802.11b/g/n wireless connectivity for Internet connection.

The new Eee PC Seashell runs on Genuine Windows XP Home or GNU Linux operating system.

Measuring just one-inch thick and weighing only 1.1 kg, the Eee PC Seashell is a highly portable unit with a 10-inch, LED-backlit WSVGA glare-type display and an ergonomically designed keyboard that is 92 percent the size of standard desktop keyboards.

Because of the Eee PC Seashell’s color finish that suggests it’s best taken and used outdoors, Asus decided to pack it with at least six hours of battery life and boost it with an intelligent energy management system.

Its Super Hybrid Engine intelligently monitors the programs being used and deploys just the right amount of power required, all the while conserving power by constantly making adjustments between performance and power.

In addition, the Eee PC Seashell has a multi-touch track pad that allows users to intuitively zoom in or out of pictures via pinching or navigating up and down pages by sliding along the touchpad.

Asus’ latest seashell design continues the trend among PC manufacturers that have been jazzing up their notebook computers’ appearances to make them more attractive and interesting.

This is actually not the first time for Asus to come up with a nature-inspired design. Last year, the Taiwan-based company also surprised the market with a “bamboo” concept computer made from natural wood, which a lot of people found to be aesthetically appealing and environment-friendly to boot.
