NEC: Serving young minds with infotech

-

NEC Philippines has been working on making its products and services accessible to other institutions other than its usual market of large corporations, small and medium businesses.

This expansion plan is coupled with the company’s desire to be more environment-friendly. The latter is one of NEC’s advocacies and demonstration of its corporate social responsibility.

By reducing the negative environmental impact of its products and services, NEC hopes to lead the way in influencing society to be environmentally friendly through information technology.

In its efforts to reach out to other sectors in the community, NEC has tapped educational institutions.

The most recent engagement is that of the University of the Philippines Los Baños Information Technology Center (UPLB-ITC), which recently acquired NEC servers.

UPLB-ITC’s 14 units of NEC Express5800/i Ra-e1 will be used for the expansion of Web access throughout the campus.

The servers will also be used for online registrations and other needed applications. They will basically be for the campus’ IT infrastructure to provide better student services.

NEC Express5800/i 120Ra-e1 rack mount server is one of the company’s key products that help in achieving targets for energy conservation. It uses a power-saving device and an optimal design for energy savings through fan rotation and lower CPU voltage.

The company believes that in choosing its products, the university welcomes NEC’s environmental value for money in the same way that NEC appreciates the trust given to its products by the university.

Moreover, the company recognizes the important role the university holds in molding young minds and developing the future influencers and leaders of society. These people will soon take up various roles in society and hopefully will be in better positions to advocate further caring for our environment. NEC is happy to take part in improving the needs of these students and future environmental champions today.

Last Jan. 15, a turnover ceremony was held at the office of UPLB Chancellor Luis Rey Velasco whereby NEC Philippines EVP Leonardo Santos donated another server unit for the use of the university.

The unit given was a NEC Express5800/110Ge tower server, a single-processor optimized for workgroups looking for a reliable server with minimum necessary functionality at an affordable price. It is an easy to deploy dependable server providing essential functionality to handle daily computing tasks cost-effectively. It is suited for Web serving and an ideal file and print server that provide data protection.

With the NEC-UPLB-ITC partnership, innovations in communication and information in the university can now be improved without endangering the sustainability of the environment and the society.
