New Samsung products for work and play

Re-establishing itself as the leading manufacturer of semiconductors, LCD panels and monitors, MFP printers, and optical disc drives, Samsung unleashed a barrage of IT products and solutions in a press conference held at The Manila Peninsula recently. 

“Samsung is dedicated to providing premium IT experiences through its many quality products,” said Bong Wan Kim, Samsung vice president for information technology. 

“These include the Large Format Display and Thin Client monitors. To maintain our No. 1 market position in the MFP segment, we will also push our high-end laser printer models,” he added.

Samsung’s goal for 2008 is to establish a healthy portfolio of channels and strengthen its partnership with the corporate sector to match the industry’s average.

The company hopes to achieve the industry norm of 60 percent corporate and 40 percent retail portfolio in the next three years. At present, Samsung’s channel mix stands at 20 percent corporate business with 80 percent in retail. 

Offering a wide range of products targeted at small and medium businesses (SMBs) as well as multinational companies (MNCs), Samsung is confident in becoming the region’s leading IT player in the B2B segment. 

Innovations such as no-noise technology, premium LCD image quality, eco-friendly parts, and first-to-market features are included in the products that will help drive Samsung’s objectives forward for both the corporate and lifestyle segments.

Lifestyle IT

Featuring a sexy piano black finish with sapphire blue accents, the sleek and slim Samsung SCX-4500 and ML-1630 printers use innovative printing technology that makes them virtually silent at operating at 45dB.

Streamlined user interface, one-touch scanning, easy access to toner cassette, and ultra-modern touch sensors help make your life simpler.  

Samsung’s SyncMaster 932BW and 2232GW LCD monitors, on the other hand, boast award-winning design, bringing a fine balance between fashion and function with a widescreen display framed in a glossy black bezel to add depth to movies, games, and multimedia experiences. 

While most drives in the market support USB BUS power reading, Samsung’s Slot-In DVD Writer supports both reading and writing media as well as 8cm disc reading and writing, maximizing compatibility with 8-cm Disc Camcorders.

It also has LightScribe, which enables you to engrave your own label on the surface of special chemical-coated discs.

The drive reads and writes DVD+R and DVD-R at 8x speed and DVD-RAM at 5x. It reads DVD+R Dual Layer at 8x and writes at 6x, while DVD-R Dual Layer reading and writing speed is 8x and 4x each.

Samsung’s TruDirect, meanwhile, allows you to create DVDs and burn digital content with a PC without the need for a hard drive. It allows easy and real-time recording from almost any digital device.

You can connect a camcorder, digital camera or webcam to your PC and connect it to the Samsung TruDirect to burn DVDs directly. It features 20x DVD+R and DVD-R writing, 16x DVD+R Dual Layer writing, 12x DVD-R Dual Layer writing and 12x DVD-RAM writing.

For photo buffs, the Samsung Digital Photo Frame represents a new concept in multimedia solutions. It lets you enjoy vibrant digital images without having to turn on a PC or print out photos.

It allows users to transfer digital images using a Wireless Networking function from the Internet to the Digital Photo Frame. It also features MP3 and video playback on its 7- or 8-inch high-definition TFT LCD.

Its user-friendly interface is enhanced by its simple list navigation, selection of slideshow effects, internal flash memory, direct connection to MP3 player and PMP, and ball hinge stand and wall mount. 

Workplace IT

The versatile yet compact Samsung CLX-2160 features laser-precise color printing, and a one-click ID copy button, and can copy/print both sides of a page to a single piece of paper with just one touch.

The other full-featured yet easy-to-use Samsung printing solutions include the ML-2851ND, the ML-4050N, and the SCX-6345N.  

On the LCD monitor front, the Samsung 720 XT, 743NX, and 460PXn boast advanced features such as easy remote networking, enhanced security features, reduced total cost of ownership, fast response time (5ms) for superb videos, and even Samsung’s Digital Natural Image-enhancement (DNIe) technology for the sharpest pictures.

The Samsung 460PXn 46” LCD monitors also feature 1000:1 contrast ratios, 500 nits brightness, 178-degree viewing angles and 8ms response times.

Last but not least, Samsung’s Spinpoint F1 hard disk drives not only bring Samsung into the exclusive club of 1TB (Terabyte) HDD suppliers, but also mark the company’s leadership in magnetic media technologies.

Spinpoint F1 1TB uses just three 334GB platters, a record in both areas as well as platter capacity, as other 1TB drives use five 200GB or four 250GB platters.

The Spinpont F1 TB hard disk drives are equipped with 7200 rpm motors, 16MB or 32MB cache and are designed for Serial ATA-300 interface. These new drives are equipped with Samsung technologies that lower acoustic levels and improve performance.

Other models are the 3.5” for desktop use, 2.5” for laptop use, and the 1.8” and 1.3” for manufacturing, MP3s, car navigation, PMPs and others.
