Acer unveils ‘ultra small form factor’ PCs
March 5, 2007 | 12:00am
Gone are the days when the size of the computer equates to power and might. The bigger, the better is no longer applicable. In this age where "nanotechnology" is the buzzword, computers that are small and compact, yet pack whooping power, are much sought after.
Realizing this, Acer, one of the world’s top computer manufacturers, came up with its new line of "ultra small form factor" PCs for the world to admire: the Acer Aspire L310, the Acer Power 1000, and the Acer Power 2000.
Though small and compact, since it is 90 percent smaller and 75 percent lighter than conventional tower desktops, power is definitely not lacking in these three truly innovative IT tools.
Powered by the latest Intel Core 2 Duo processors over Intel Express chipsets and complemented by an L2 memory cache, the Acer Power 2000 and Aspire L310 are definitely no pushovers despite their diminutive size. Having the Intel Core 2 Duo processor guarantees maximum performance at less power consumption.
On the other hand, the AcerPower 1000 comes with AMD’s latest selection of processors, from the Sempron to the powerful AMD Athlon 64 X2 for balanced performance and overall value.
These three compact CPUs have DDR II SDRAM memory upgradeable to 2GB, 80GB up to 400GB SATA hard drives for all those humongous office files, photos, and videos, and an integrated 7.1 channel surround sound, high-definition audio card for those booming bass and crispy trebles when watching blockbuster movies or playing heart-pounding online or PC games played through their Super Multi optical drive.
The only difference is the on-board graphics card since the Acer Power 2000 and Aspire L310 both carry Intel GMA 3000 while the AcerPower 1000 carries the NVIDIA GeForce 6150 graphics card.
But compared to other conventional desktop tower PCs that are 10 times bigger, these Acer compact CPUs run whisper-quiet (around 26dB on idle mode), thus making them perfect tools for a business environment that requires space-saving solutions yet needs to ensure maximum comfort and high productivity in the office.
And since Microsoft’s brand-new OS Vista is now in town, expect the Veriton 1000, the Aspire L310, and the AcerPower 1000 to give other Vista-running PCs a run for their money primarily because of their ultra small form factor that would fit any room or office table.
Just like all the other PCs in the Acer product range, all three carry the trademark Acer Empowering Technology that practically enhances the way people use their PCs.
And complemented by Acer’s world-class technical support system, the Acer Power 2000, the Acer Aspire L310, and Acer Power 1000 are expected to set a new trend in the compact CPU space.
