HP posts strong Q2 gains in x86 server

-
HP demonstrated strong x86 server revenue growth in the second quarter this year and was the No. 1 vendor of x86 server in the Philippines for the 12th consecutive quarter, according to second quarter figures released by the IDC.

In total x86 server units and revenue, HP grew more than the market in the second quarter compared to the first quarter.

HP led the x86 server market in the Philippines with a 30.3 percent unit shipment and 37.9 percent revenue share in the second quarter.

HP was also No.1 in the Windows, Linux and Unix x86 server segments during the same period, both in terms of unit shipment and revenue.

The Windows, Linux and Unix segments contributed to the bulk of x86 server unit shipments and spending in the Philippines in the second quarter.

Additionally, HP gained 7.2 percentage points in revenue market share year-on-year in the x86 server market during the quarter.

HP was also the only vendor to gain revenue share in the x86 blade server market in the Philippines in the second quarter compared to the same period a year ago.

"We are clearly pleased with the strength of execution in the second quarter, as evidenced by the solid growth in units and revenue in our x86 server lines, especially our HP ProLiant server business," said Diana de la Rosa, HP Philippines’ business manager for industry standard servers.

"The strength of our portfolio and strategy of delivering innovation on standards – through capabilities such as dual-core technology, virtualization and management simplicity – continue to resonate with customers, making HP their platform of choice," De la Rosa added.

Other highlights of the IDC report: HP was No. 1 in total x86 server Linux revenue in 2005 and No. 1 in Windows x86 server unit shipments and revenue in the second quarter. — Manny de los Reyes
