Agents of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) swooped down and padlocked five gaming shops in Manila for allegedly violating the intellectual property law.
The gaming centers were allegedly illegally accessing Ragnarok Online, a massive multiplayer online role-playing game popular among the youth.
NBI agents, led by S1 Roel Jovenir, closed down Spiner-gy Gaming Center, Wrexham Trading and Slapshock Gaming Center, all in Tondo; Aron Computer Gaming Center in Sta. Cruz; and GameSite Computer Ga-ming Center in Sampaloc, for allegedly violating Section 33b of Republic Act 8792, or the Electronic Commerce Act.
The NBI agents acted on a complaint filed by Level-Up! Inc. against the five gaming centers with the Manila Regional Trial Court Branch 24 presided over Judge Antonio Eugenio Jr.
Level-Up! is the exclusive local licensee of the Korean-made Ragnarok Online.
Armed with search war-rants issued by Eugenio, the NBI agents raided and shut down the five gaming centers last March 24. They confis-cated several computer sets which were sent to the NBIs Computer Forensics Labora-tory.
