Globe Telecom ties up with Palm

Globe Telecom has tied up with Palm Inc., a pioneer in mobile productivity solutions, to give corporate clients an edge over competition by allowing them to be connected and productive anytime and anywhere.
Both Globe and Palm realize that at present, the corporate environment is being transformed into an extended, virtual enterprise supported by a highly mobile workforce requiring fast, easy remote access to networked resources.
"We are very much aware of the fast-growing demand of the corporate market for mobile data services. From virtually anywhere, the functionality of their mobile devices is enhanced by being able to get connected and not be desk-bound. The partnership with Palm gives us this edge," said Maridol Ylanan, assistant vice president for sales for GlobeSolutions.
By using Globe Handyphone and Palm personal digital assistants (PDAs), Ylanan said executives and even their staff can stay productive even when on the go since they are empowered to run their business outside the office.
She said clients can profit from speedy and easy access to e-mail and other critical office information as well as browse the Internet faster than an ordinary dial-up service.
Christopher H. Cheng, GlobeSolutions Wireless Applications team head, said that for the company, the partnership will allow the provision of superior and more content-rich value for its customers beyond simple voice and text messaging services as they would be equipped with the best tools to access the information they need.
In addition, Cheng said the partnership allows Palm, a vendor of mobility solutions through its handheld devices, the opportunity to leverage on the coming of age of the wireless data network to enable its users to be truly mobile-connected individuals.
While a PDA in itself is a useful tool, he explained that its ability to work wirelessly by connecting to Globes GPRS (General Packet Radio Service) network through a compatible handset connected via Bluetooth or infrared allows the mobile user to continuously have access to e-mail and other office data, making it a critical business companion.
Furthermore, a PDA such as Palm allows for higher productivity and richer user experience aside from just speed and ease of connectivity. It also has a bigger screen so it is easier to manage longer messages and more complex data, and the interface and data entry method is much easier by simply tapping or writing on the PDA screen itself.
