AMA offers full-degree course called Mechatronics

Information and communications technology (ICT) education in the Philippines goes on higher gear with the introduction of Mechatronics as a full-degree course at AMA Computer University.

AMA is pioneering this world-class degree course on its 43 campuses nationwide, alongside other new Engineering courses like Engineering Informatics, Manufacturing Engineering, Logistics Engineering and Management.

These new courses were benchmarked from the curricula of Ngee Ann Polytechnic and Nan Yang Polytechnic of Singapore.

AMA’s Mechatronics Engineering course will cut across traditional disciplinary boundaries and fulfill the rising needs of the local and global markets for new powerful, high-computing tools in the design and building of new products and processes.

Applied Mechatronics, once developed and utilized, will definitely enhance effective technology to improve product performance, adaptability and flexibility.

Mechatronics is introduced in the AMA curriculum as the synergistic integration of Mechanical Engineering, Electronics Engineering and Computer Science.

Mechatronics Engineering graduates are most likely to become technical officers, production or maintenance officers, production engineers or design engineers or work in the automation, aviation, semiconductor, manufacturing or related industries.

Dr. Amable Aguiluz V, AMA Computer University president, said, "AMA Mechatronics students are sure to secure a passport to a good future as the use of computers, information technology and electronics for the control of machines used in the production of different products is fast increasing."

Aguiluz will be formally sworn in as the first president of AMA Computer University next month during investiture rites at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) with President Arroyo and other government and business officials as special guests.
