Running toward a healthy life

MANILA, Philippines - Running has definitely become the latest exercise craze to sweep the country. Whether it’s the exhilaration of propelling your body through space, the sensation you get from your muscles to your mind as your feet pound on the ground, or simply the sheer satisfaction of completing a race, all health buffs can’t get enough of this addictive exercise.

Aside from being a simple yet fun exercise, running offers countless health benefits. By running for just 30 minutes every day, you can have not just a fit and healthy body, but a sound mind as well.

Running helps you achieve your ideal body weight by burning more calories. It also lowers your risk of heart attack and stroke and stimulates your muscles and bones so they stay strong as you get older.

Endorphins are also released while running, giving you a runner’s high, lessening the feeling of stress. Running also gives you a sense of pride and accomplishment as you cross the finish line.

These are all the reasons why market leader Century Tuna organized the Century Tuna Superbods Run, the biggest and most star-studded celebration of health and fitness that aimed to inspire people to get into the fit and healthy lifestyle.

The highly successful “run of the Century” held at the Bonifacio Global City in Taguig attracted over 11,000 health and fitness enthusiasts, including entertainment, society and business personalities, to race for health and start a healthy lifestyle this 2010.

Leading the pack, of course, was Century Corned Tuna endorser Derek Ramsay, joined by former Century Tuna Superbods winners Jon Avila, Ram Sagad, Patty Ortega, Van Victor Leaño and Theresa Fenger, who were all excited to drive runners to achieve fit bodies and healthy minds.

The Superbods Run became the perfect venue for celebrities to challenge themselves on the race path and beat their own times.

Taking those strides for a healthy lifestyle were Sen. Pia Cayetano, who is an active runner herself, business tycoons Lance Gokongwei and Fernando Zobel and wife Kit Zobel, former Miss Universe and Century Tuna image model Gloria Diaz, columnist and TV host Tessa Prieto-Valdes, top models Isabelle Daza and Georgina Wilson, ace photographer Sara Black, and showbiz stars Iza Calzado, Rhian Ramos, Maricar Reyes, Rafael Rosell, Victor Basa, Marc Nelson, Dyan Castillejo, Daniel Matsunaga, and Leo Valdez.

Century Tuna pulled out all the stops to ensure that the event would be the best running experience for the guests and participants.

Explained Century Canning Corp. general manager Gold Tantoco: “We want to leverage our being a market leader and proponent of health and wellness to inspire and motivate more people to be fit and active. Through the Superbods Run, they now realized they can get started on a healthy lifestyle, regardless of the season or setting.”

“And, of course, getting into a fit and active lifestyle also means eating healthy, which Century Tuna has actively pushed through our over 30 products. Our high-quality, world-class products are naturally rich in Omega-3 DHA that not only helps promote heart health, but also sharpens memory, enables healthy growth and development of the brain, and promotes a positive mood,” added Tantoco.
