Asian Eye Institute: Aiming for excellence through international accreditation

MANILA, Philippines - The Asian Eye Institute, a world-class ambulatory eye care center, together with the Philippine Heart Center, Manila Doctors’ Hospital, and Clinica Manila, signed an agreement with Accreditation Canada for the implementation of its new Qmentum International Program.

The ceremonial signing held during the formal launch at Edsa Shangri-La last Feb. 24 was witnessed by officials of the Department of Health, Department of Tourism and Department of Foreign Affairs.

Others present during the signing were Bong Velasquez of Philippine Airlines, Andrew Smith of the Embassy of Canada, and Sebastien Audete of Accreditation Canada.

This initiative raises the bar in health care services making health care delivery safer and most effective for Filipinos.

“The challenge today is that many internationally recognized accreditation bodies exist around the world. While their standards are generally high, their processes are all quite different,” said Wendy Nicklin, president and CEO of Accreditation Canada.

“The Philippines is a great opportunity to share ideas and develop clear, sustainable benchmarks regarding quality improvement and measurement,” Nicklin added.

Committed to excellent service and social responsibility, Asian Eye continuously exerts efforts toward the achievement of excellence in quality service and patient care.

Since 2001, it has been awarded the distinction as the first ambulatory clinic to receive triple ISO certification (2006 certification of its quality, environment, safety and health system to the ISO 9001:2000, ISO 14002:2005 and OHSAS 18001:1999 standards).

It is also one of the first companies in the Philippines to be awarded the Investor in People (IiP) recognition by the International Quality Centre of the United Kingdom, for its acknowledgement of organizational success.

To date, Asian Eye has served over 50,000 local and foreign patients and is at the forefront of efforts to make available in Asia breakthrough technologies for eye care and treatment.
