Fire hits PPL building in Manila, still raging after more than 12 hours

Asian otorhinolaryngologists will get their rare chance to be in one place and interact with one another when Manila hosts the first Asian Pediatric Otorhinolaryngology Meeting at Shangri-la Edsa Plaza Hotel in Mandaluyong City on June 7-8.

Organized by the Department of Otorhinolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery of St. Luke’s Medical Center, “The Classics of Pediatric ORL Practice: An Asian Perspective” will be the first meeting of its kind that will put together an array of interesting subjects for discussion and a selection of topnotch specialists from different countries to make the two days fittingly significant for pediatricians and ORL practitioners in Asia.

The meeting will feature lectures and case discussions on the latest updates, issues and topics of interest on pediatric ORL.

Included in the subjects are Rhinitis and Nasal Obstruction in Infants, Epistaxis in Children, Rhinosinusitis: Obstructive Sleep Apnea, Genetic Studies for Oropharyngeal and Airway Disorders, Current Status of Recurrent Respiratory Papillomatosis, Laryngomalacia, Subglottic Stenosis, and Cochlear Implantation.

Case discussions on Rhinology, Otology and Airway Problems are scheduled at the end of the event. 

Topnotch foreign specialists are scheduled to speak on various subjects during the congress. They include Abhilash Balakrishnan, head of ORL of KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital in Singapore; Nguyen Thi Ngoc Dung, president of Vietnam ENT Association and director of ENT Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam; Siti Sabzah Hashim, head of the Department of ORL, Alor State Hospital in Kedah, Malaysia; and Takeshi Kubo, professor and chairman of Department of ORL-HNS, Osaka University School of Medicine.

Other foreign authorities include Damayanti Soetjipto, president of Indonesian ORL-HNS and founding member of ASEAN Rhinology Society; Henry Jun Kiaang Tan, clinical associate professor and senior consultant of Pediatric ORL Service of KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital in Singapore; Gerald Wolf, Department of ORL-HNS staff of University of ENT Hospital Graz in Austria; and, Yamei Zhang, chief of the Department of ORL-HNS of Beijing Children’s Hospital in China.
