Arroyo graces S&T Week opening

President Arroyo will be the guest of honor in today’s opening rites of the National Science and Technology Week, at the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology in Diliman, Quezon City.

Science and Technology Secretary Estrella Alabastro will lead the science community in the weeklong event, which for this year has a wider focus on scientific meetings, policy fora and the annual S&T fair.

The scientific meetings are divided into three clusters: agriculture, forestry, natural resources and fishery sector; health and basic R&D researches, and industry, energy and advanced science.

Meanwhile, topics for the policy fora run along the government’s priority programs such as a national policy on genetically modified organisms and intellectual property rights.

The S&T exhibits will feature DOST accomplishments, activities, products and services available to the public.

Parallel activities in DOST’s regional offices will be coordinated by Region 3 director Conrado Oliveros.
