MANILA, Philippines - If somebody asks very eligible bachelor and real estate heir Kevin Tan about his latest pursuit, he may just cleverly quip, “Collective bliss through EDM.”
As much as it sounds like the latest trend in health and wellness, it is not. Instead, this cool first vice president and head of Megaworld Corporation’s Commercial Division is referring to an exciting facet of a project set to transform Boracay Island. Besting other popular island destinations such as Maldives and Phuket based on the recommendations of popular leisure magazines and travel websites, Boracay is undeniably a popular choice among world travelers. What then are Megaworld and the eldest son of tycoon Andrew Tan doing with Boracay?
After Global-Estate Resorts Inc. (GERI) became the latest sister of company of Megaworld under parent firm Alliance Global Group (AGI), the Tan patriarch unveiled a P15 billion plan to develop Boracay Newcoast. The first and only integrated tourism estate in Boracay is envisioned to raise the standard of tourism by putting together all the elements Boracay has been known for plus more. Boracay Newcoast promises an unprecedented variety of leisure experiences supported by world-class amenities and service.
One of these unique experiences, the younger Tan revealed, is his plan to make the new tourist town the heart of Boracay’s party scene. “We will work towards making Boracay Newcoast the Ibiza of Asia. Filipinos aren’t just beach lovers; we also know how to party, Ibiza-style,” he declared.
Ibiza is popularly known as the party capital of Europe, exuding the best of electronic dance music or EDM. Prominent DJs showcase the latest in techno house and trance music in Ibiza, making it an exciting place for clubbing. Earlier this year, the younger Tan visited the island and enjoyed seeing what the rave was all about.
“Ibiza’s legendary nightlife is well deserved. We plan to transform the party landscape in Boracay in similar fashion with Boracay Newcoast,” he shared.
To do this, a strategic spot in Newcoast Station, Boracay Newcoast’s town center, will be expanded into a special party place buzzing with the hottest chill-out sounds. For a more distinctive feel, a large pool with mini-bars in the center of the station shall serve as the focal point. A large stage in front would house various performing DJs and artists. The rest of the clubbers surrounding the scene will enjoy an unobstructed view of the stage and the pool while dancing to every beat.
