Boracay's tourism prospects get a boost

-

MANILA, Philippines - Boracay Island needs to gear up for unprecedented growth. According to the Department of Tourism, 2011 was another banner year for Boracay, as it registered close to 910,000 visitors. This represents a 16% increase from the previous year. Aklan’s provincial government expects Boracay to hit the one million mark by the end of this year, a target previously set for 2013.

Global-Estate Resorts Inc. (GERI), the tourism and leisure arm of business tycoon Andrew Tan, anticipates the need to prepare Boracay for more tourist arrivals. Through Boracay Newcoast, the first and only integrated tourism estate in Boracay, GERI expects to redefine tourism by enhancing visitors’ experience of the island.

According to Megaworld Global-Estate Vice President for Sales and Marketing Abraham Mercado, the steady rise of world travel supported by the popularity of inexpensive long-haul flights enables travelers to see the best of the world. As a result, tourists are increasingly looking for fresh experiences every time they travel.

“We have to keep raising the bar in Boracay, the country’s best known tourism spot for world travelers, because today’s tourism demands mean being able to compete on a global level,” Mercado noted.

GERI recognizes that for Boracay to remain competitive, it must offer something totally new. Only by reinventing the Boracay experience could the island sustain its growth well into the future.

Boracay Newcoast will redefine tourism in Boracay because of its many firsts. Covering 14% of the island, Boracay Newcoast is the island’s first and only integrated tourism estate. Apart from having the island’s first and only championship golf course, Boracay Newcoast will also soon boast of the island’s first shophouse district, boutique hotel district, and exclusive residential village.

The master-planned property further showcases a 1-kilometer private white sandy beach and Newcoast Station, a massive entertainment complex with shops, bars and restaurants.

“From beach life to total leisure and outdoor entertainment, Boracay Newcoast will offer the most integrated island experience in this part of Asia,” Mercado added.
