Zuellig is topped out at 33 storeys

MANILA, Philippines - The project team of the Zuellig Building celebrated the topping out of the 33-story tower last Sept. 26, 2011, a little over two years since its groundbreaking in May 2009. The construction team, led by the Zuellig Building’s contractor, Leighton Contractors (Philippines) Inc., gathered at the tower’s highest level to mark the safe completion of the structure.

According to Boyd Merrett, General Manager of Leighton Asia Limited, ‘Topping Out’ is a ceremony traditionally marked by placing a fir tree or branch to symbolize the bringing to life of a nearly completed building. Today, a Topping Out ceremony is an expression of pride and achievement among builders and craftsmen involved in a construction project. The ceremony often involves placing a last beam, flying flags or laying a last shovel full of concrete. 

For the Zuellig Building, the recent ceremony signals the growth and progress of the Makati business district towards a sustainable future. The building is the first high-rise office tower with a pre-certification at Gold level under the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (Core & Shell) (LEED-CS) program of the US Green Building Council (USGBC).

The green building is designed to improve energy and water utilization, making way for enhanced comfort and productivity for employees, increased profitability for tenants, and a safer planet for all.

The Zuellig Building is a new 33-story premium office tower strategically situated at the intersection of Makati Avenue and Paseo de Roxas.
