UAP leads green building policy signing

- Jonas O. Maniquis -

MANILA, Philippines - As the lead professional in the design of a built environment, an architect has an important role to play in ensuring the survival of the human race and biodiversity of other living species.

In addition, he also tasked with preserving the resources of mother earth and its environment and with conserving the natural, cultural and historical heritage for future generations currently threatened by climate change and untenable development.

The United Architects of the Philippines (UAP) initiated the preparation of a declaration  of policy on green building and sustainability, which gained support from international leaders and was signed recently on the occasion of the 36th UAP National Convention and CONEX 2010.

The signing of the policy was participated in by various international and local organizations, such as the International Union on Architects (UIA), the UAP board led by president Arch. Ana Mangalino-Ling, the College of Fellows, and other organizations.

In the declaration, the UAP vowed to support all public advocacies on environmental protection, promote  responsible resource use, assist  government programs on awareness campaigns on environmental concerns, and pursue research and development programs to improve technological advances on energy conservation and sustainability.

As integrated and accredited professional organization of architects in the Philippines, the UAP called on all individuals, green movements, government agencies, allied professional organizations, and international supporters, to put their acts together towards a stronger force in achieving a sustainable and healthy human, environment for every Filipino.
